アイドル or Idol in Japanese

In Japanese society, idol アイドル, aidoru is a reference to mostly girls in media who are in their teens and twenties and who are considered especially cute and sexy and who will, for a length of time ranging from several months to a couple of years, regularly make appearances in the media, e.g. as singers for J-pop , bit-part actors, television personalities and  models in photo spreads for  magazines, advertisements, etc.
