Hot Flashes – Even Men Are Not Spared
64
Hot flashes occur due to hormonal imbalances. Generally, they occur in females. As the name suggests, normally, the heat from hot flashes starts from the chest towards the neck. The woman then gets a “flushed” appearance and the front of the face and the body warms up. For this reason, hot flashes are also known as hot “flushes”. This is characterized by the bulging of red patches on the skin surface. Most probably, it occurs in the regions of the neck and/or the face. While many women feel their bodies become warm, others experience clamminess in the hands and feet, while the rest of the body remains hot.
These are some of the major symptoms related to menopause. Women, therefore, need to go on regular checkups and talk to doctors about their symptoms. Hot flashes in menopause are more dangerous at night. They can disturb a woman while she is resting. A greater part of females report that they more often experience sweating during nights than during days. Puddles of perspiration form on their chests and their beddings get wet. Because of this, many women feel embarrassed and extremely uncomfortable.
But what is the physiology behind the occurrence of hot flashes during menopause? The actual reason is still a mystery. However, it has been observed that they happen due to a deficit in the secretion of particular hormones. Those women whose ovaries have been removed surgically due to some causes go through this difficulty very often. A majority of women experience hot flashes before menopause for many years and only for a few years after menopause.
Frankly speaking, there are still a lot of questions left unanswered concerning hot flashes. They may either be due to the reduced hormone production by the ovaries or because of the overproduction of adrenal hormones. But scientists have been unsuccessful in finding the relationship between hot flashes and hormones. However, it has been found that a sudden decrease in hormones can be one of the factors leading to hot flashes in menopause; and even males are not exempted.
