Leander and Mahesh became the first Indian Tennis doubles team to reach the finals of all four Grand Slams, eventually winning the Wimbledon and the French Open.

They formed a very formidable partnership in the late 90s and played so well together that they featured in several memorable grand slam matches, Olympic matches as well as Davis Cup matches for India. Their pairing was so strong and reliable and they vibed so well together. Later, the relationship between the pair gradually deteriorated and the cause for the rift has never been known though ego clashes is supposed to be the possible factor. They had kept the Indian tricolor flying high!

Later ,both went on to win further laurels with other partners in doubles and mixed doubles but the magic of Paes and Bhupathy was surely missed by every Indian!

Viswanathan Anand

Anand ,the Indian chess grandmaster , has been one of the strongest non-Soviet players since Bobby Fischer, along with the Hungarian Péter Lékó and the Bulgarian Topalov.

He was the youngest Indian to win the International Master's Title at the age of fifteen and at the age of eighteen, he became India's First Grandmaster.In 1995, he played a title match against Kasparov in New York City's WorldTradeCenter.

Anand has won the Chess Oscar for best chess player in 1997, 1998, 2003, and 2004. His four Oscars ties him with Kasparov for the most ever, one better than Fischer's three.

 Anand's book, 'My Best Games of Chess' which was published in the year 1998 won him the 'Book of the Year' Award by the British Chess Federation .

Anand is supposed to be one of the most clear-headed chess analysts in the world .
