Hot, Sexy and Glamourous 2006 edition of Reed Dance Carnival in Swaziland
76I am not too sure if Hubpages allows hubs on carnival shows. If it does ok, if not I will gladly remove this hub.
I respect people's culture and tradition but I also believe in decent dressing. I was told also that in Swaziland, ladies dance naked in front of their king just to entice him in making another choice of a wife. Wonderful. Please read on.
I bring to you the 2006 edition of the Reed Dance Carnival in Swaziland. Like in other parts of the world, the people of Swaziland annually organize a carnival called Reed Dance. It is indeed a beautiful, colorful and fun-filled carnival. Being an annual event, it attracts people from all parts of the world. Traditionally, the Reed Dance is seen as an opportunity for Swaziland's maidens to pay tribute to the Queen Mother.
Africa is a place to be. We have unique and beautiful cultures. Swaziland is an African country surrounded by South Africa and Mozambique. The country is largely mountainous. History has it that Bantu peoples migrated southwest to the area of Mozambique in the 16th century. A number of clans broke away from the main body in the 18th century and settled in Swaziland. In the 19th century these clans organized as a tribe, partly because they were in constant conflict with the Zulu. Their ruler, Mswazi, appealed to the British in the 1840s for help against the Zulu. The British and the Transvaal governments guaranteed the independence of Swaziland in 1881.
South Africa held Swaziland as a protectorate from 1894 to 1899, but after the Boer War, in 1902, Swaziland was transferred to British administration. The paramount chief was recognized as the native authority in 1941. In 1963, the territory was constituted a protectorate, and on Sept. 6, 1968, it became the independent nation of Swaziland.
In my country also, we organize various colourful and fun-filled carnivals. Watch out for the pictures. If you have not participated in any of the carnivals, you are missing a lot.

hafeezrm - thanks so much for your comment. Thanks for the education on Swaziland culture. I think the issue of polygamy is more prononced in Africa. How the king survives with many wives remains unanswered. I personally do not support the idea of women appearing naked, though I respect people's culture. This has gone beyond carnival that I know. I doubt if the women groups worldwide will support the idea of appearing naked.
Interesting Hub. I respect their tradition but do not like it - even though I am of an African Background. I doubt if those women will be treated well or will be at Liberty if the King married them.
As for the "king". There are "Kings" and there are "Kings". I'm not an arrogant person Philipo, but I wouldn't ever want to marry an African King because I know what comes with the Territory. Your life is out of your hands.
Ps. I had a relationship with a King's son few years ago. (African) He was the first son. Well, the family insisted I get pregnant before marrying their precious prince.
Lol. This Hub touched a cord. Enjoy the weekend. :)
Just like you I respect their tradition and I would probably want to witness this festivity.
@Lady_E - I wasn't comfortable with this hub because of the pics hence I resolved to delete it this morning if I do not get your approval. Thanks for your comments. I am delighted. I agree with your comment that "your life is out of your hands" being a King's wife. Indeed, the King's and the Prince's wives do not have a say in the running of the family and their own life. They are given directives and are expected to obey without complain. The King and the Prince marry as many wives as they wish, and the existing wives are not expected to say anything negative about the incoming wives. Thank God that you took the wise decision to stay away from the palace. I wish you the best.
@Philent - Thanks for your comments. Please let us know your experience any time you visit Swaziland.
Philipo - thanks fo sharing this unique cultural experience. I am really facinated by the various standards of global cultures. If this were to take place in America there would be such an outcry among womens' group - for obvious reasons.
I suspect the women who participate do so mainly for financial and personal security which comes from being the wife of a king. I would hessitate to think that they do it solefy for entertainment purposes. Perhaps some do.
jxb7076 - thanks so much. You have introduced another perspective to the issue. I support your view that women who participate do so mainly for financial and personal security which comes from being the wife of a king. That some do so for the purpose of entertainment is also possible.
This is educational for us that don't know about this dance or culture. I found it wonderful, thank you for this insightful hub!
Ladybird33 - thanks for your comments. It is indeed edcuational. Keep enjoying yourself.
Philipo this is a very nice hub and i happened to know the traditional dance of Swaziland and its beauty through your words. I believe everyone is beautiful in their oen way and i find them attractive too. Write more about different african places and their cultural traditions. Your hub was no nice that it gave me an idea to create a new hub on these beautiful people , which i will release soon.
shinujohn2008 - thanks so much for your comments. Glad to note that you enjoy African tradition and culture. Look forward to reading your new hub.
Philipo i had done that hub last week http://hubpages.com/hub/Swaziland-girls . Hope you like it. I was not able to do a better hub , as i was not familiar with many african words. It will be helpful for me if you can make more hubs on african women based on special parts or culture. That will help me in doing hubs like that. I am not asking you to do hubs on tribal women. You can make hubs on beautiful african women categorised based on the cities or countries. It will be more informative.
shinujohn2008 - I will do exactly as you have said. Just give me some time. Meanwhile, I will check your new hub out. Thanks a lot.

I have been to Swaziland and heard of young ladies dancing topless to attract attention of the King which already has over a dozen wives. This is a classic case of maldistribution. Like gini ratio, the social scientists must work out wife-ratio where zero indicates equal distribution (one husband one wife) and above zero more wives per capita.
