How to Raise Happy Toddlers
67Parents want their kids to grow up to love and be loved, to follow
their ambitions and dreams, to achieve success. But caring for a
toddler can be a handful. You have to nurture and keep the child happy
at the same time. However, it is not about controlling a toddler's
happiness. Parents have to make things work in order to raise their
kids happy and full of optimism. It has been said that happy children
are the product of happy homes.
Foster your child's happiness
Set aside a few hours for some down time and let your kids be in
control about how they should go about their day. Weekends are perfect
to do this. Take a fun activity together and you'll be able to sense
that your toddler feels closer to you even more. Also, give in to your
toddler's whims once in a while. You don't have to go rushing,
listing all the necessary things to do you feel makes your kid happy.
You'll just feel depleted after. Let things flow to gauge what your
child is feeling at the moment. Interaction is very important.
Fuel your toddler with the right food
Toddlers get grumpy when they are famished. But don't make them eat
all that junk food. Ensure often that your child is not starving. Then
prepare healthy snacks and meals while letting them indulge in a few
treats every so often. Then use good judgment on when and how much you
are going to give the child. Keeping them full makes them happy and
contented and the health benefits of those snacks and meals you have
prepared keep them in the pink of health. Also, give them milk in the
morning and before bedtime.
Drop in all fours
When you can, play with your child. Bonding moments like these are
essential for toddlers to feel that they are important enough to play
and be with. Kids are great companions and you can also unleash your
inner child when hanging out with them.
Plan activities such as strolling in the park hand in hand with your
child, play with toddler toys and games, tell funny jokes and make silly faces,
and even let your child watch television with you. You busy on the
popcorn and remote, while your child spread out on the floor, playing
with his or her precious toys. You can also relax together. Show your
child how to relax by reading an illustrated book or just watching the
sunset on the horizon. It prevents a child from running around by
taking your example.
Let your toddlers express themselves
Even if a toddler no more than half a year old engages in baby talk,
pay attention. It's the little things like listening and providing
your children many opportunities to express themselves. Museum-hop for
the day and show your child the many wondrous things only a museum can
offer. From the different art collections on display to the sculptures
and ancient artifacts, pretty sure your child will have a hoot about
seeing so many things at once. Also, crank up your stereo, play various
types of music, and dance with your little tot in tow.
Indulge your child for as long as you can. Not only it will make your
child happy, you'll feel pleased with yourself as well for being such
an attentive parent.
