RAIL passengers can now get from Edinburgh to Paris in seven and a half hours after the £800m upgrade of London's St Pancras opened today.
This compares to around five hours' total journey time between the two city centres for travellers making the journey by plane.
GNER trains between Edinburgh and London Kings Cross will connect with up to 10 Eurostar services a day to Paris and seven a day to Brussels.
GNER chief executive, Jonathan Metcalfe, said: "Eurostar's move to St Pancras International makes travelling by train to mainland Europe faster and more accessible for people living in towns and cities along the East Coast Main Line route.
"GNER passengers can now step off the train at Kings Cross and cross the road to join one of Eurostar's frequent, high-speed services to mainland Europe."
GNER and Eurostar have also introduced new through-fares to Europe allowing passengers to purchase just one ticket for the entire journey
