Lodging In San Antonio

There are many hotels in San Antonio Texas for you to stay in while you visit our city. There are some for every budget.

When I say there are many, I mean it. There are about 30,000 hotel rooms in the city. Over 10,000 of them are downtown, on or near the River Walk.

If your budget allows it, you can stay in one of several magnificent full-service hotels. These gorgeous hotels are conveniently located on the Riverwalk, near all of the downtown tourist attractions and fabulous restaurants.

They have bellhops and valet parking. Expect to pay a lot for your room and to park your car. But, with the extra money you pay, expect to be treated like a very important person. You can pay up to $400 a night for a double room.

Twice before we moved to San Antonio, we stayed in one of the beautiful downtown hotels in San Antonio Texas and they were  fabulous. We ate on the Riverwalk and were treated like we were somebody important. The Alamo was nearby, not to mention so many other tourist attractions located downtown.

If downtown is not for you, consider staying at a resort in Northwest San Antonio. There are several near Sea World, complete with golf courses, spas, and other amenities. The best part is that you can go directly to Sea World, just up the road, without getting on a freeway. While your spouse plays golf, you can get pampered in their on-site, full-service spa.

If you want family-friendly and budget-friendly accommodations, consider staying in a more moderately priced motel in North or Northwest San Antonio. You can find them for under $100 a night, depending on the size of your family. They have pools, room service, cable TV and internet. They are clean and comfortable and not far from restaurants, theaters, and shopping malls. Keep in mind that during Fiesta in April, during Las Posadas in December, and anytime the Spurs are playing a home game, rooms in hotels in San Antonio Texas are more expensive and harder to get so make sure that you either call or go online and make a reservation!

Riverwalk Hotels In San Antonio

There are some great Riverwalk hotels in San Antonio to choose from. These hotels are top of the line, with full service accommodations, delicious food, valet parking, spa and gym facilities, pools, hot tubs, and so many other amenities.

The hotels I am listing give you top notch service and are family friendly. They are not, however, budget-friendly for most families. But if you can afford to stay in one of these beautiful hotels, go for it and enjoy being right on the river!

My list for your convenience is as follows:

1. Holiday Inn Riverwalk

2. Marriott River Center Hotel

3. Marriott River Walk

4. Hyatt Regency San Antonio

5. Crowne Plaza Riverwalk

6. The Fairmount

7. Hotel Contessa

8. Hotel Valencia River Walk

9. Watermark Hotel & Spa

10. La Mansion Del Rio

11. Westin Riverwalk Hotel

12. Hilton Palacio Del Rio

Just go to Google and type the name of one of these hotels and San Antonio and you will find their websites and get information on them.

My husband and I stayed in a few of these, but it has been several years. I am sure they are still top-notch.

I would like to add that most of these hotels also have facilities to accommodate company meetings if you are in town to scout out good places to hold business conferences. The Hyatt Regency San Antonio has 40,000 square feet of space for meetings. The Marriott River Walk has 14 separate meeting rooms. The Marriott Rivercenter has 60,000 square feet for business conferences. Yes, there are two different Marriott's downtown.

These hotels have great food, but you can walk on down the river to any restaurant of your choice. You can eat inside, but plan to eat some delicious meals outside on the Riverwalk. Ride on one of the riverboats, and do a lot of shopping. You will have a blast.

Make sure that you take full advantage of all of the services that you are paying for at your hotel.

Menger Hotel San Antonio

The Menger Hotel San Antonio is close to the Alamo and to River Center Mall. It is just a block from the River Walk. This hotel has a history...This hotel opened back in 1859, prior to the Civil War. Among its most famous Civil War guests are Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant!

Many of the rooms are still decorated in 19th century style. Some have been refurbished and are completely modernized. When you make a reservation, if you want modern furnishings, make sure you specify that you want a recently refurbished room. Likewise, if you want a room with antique furnishings, ask for that. They really are beautiful.

This is a huge hotel, the size of a city block, with 316 rooms. Rooms cost from $215 for a double occupancy up to $495 for a suite per night.

This hotel's amenities include a large heated swimming pool, a spa, bar, restaurant, laundry and dry cleaning services, some room service, a Jacuzzi, a workout room, and a shopping arcade.

Don't worry--all rooms have air conditioning, high speed internet, pay-per-view movie service, cable TV, hair dryer, and iron. For $25 more, your room can have a mini fridge. Valet parking is also available for a $25 fee.

Pictured above, my son, Matthew, poses by the hotel's very old piano.

If you are a paranormal fan, This hotel claims at least 32 ghosts live within its walls.

Other famous guests over the years include Sarah Bernhardt, Babe Ruth, Mae West, Teddy Roosevelt, and many others. This has been The Place to stay in downtown San Antonio for many years.

The Menger Hotel San Antonio is located at 204 Alamo Plaza at Crockett Street.

Resort In San Antonio Texas

If you would like to stay at a resort in San Antonio Texas, there are some beautiful ones up by Sea World. is located at Westover Hills Boulevard and Hyatt Resort Drive, near Hwy 151. It is a beautiful facility. I have gone to company functions and lunches at this resort. It is conveniently located and just down the road from Sea World. It is in a beautiful spot on 200 acres.

You can play golf or go tubing on the premises on the Ramblin' River which is a 950 foot long man-made river for the resort. There is a full service spa after you play 27 holes. Laundry facilities are free of charge. There is a country store if you need supplies and each room has a refrigerator for you to stock.

This resort even has a Hyatt Kids Club so you can drop off the little ones and enjoy yourself. There is also a youth spa and a game room for the kids. Your family will love this facility.

Also in the same area, on Westover Hills is the Radisson Hill Country Resort. This is a beautiful facility as well but does not have as many amenities as the Hyatt. There is a spa and guests have privileges at two golf courses nearby. They offer Sea World package deals since Sea World is just up the hill. There are three outdoor pools plus a health club and a jacuzzi.

There is a beautiful resort in San Antonio Texas near Fiesta Texas and The Shops At La Cantera. It is called the Westin La Cantera. It is located at 16641 La Cantera Pkwy. Take the La Cantera Pkwy exit off of I-10.

This resort has some excellent children's programs. There are also five swimming pools and a beautiful waterfall. Wildlife comes out each evening and the food is fabulous. There are two golf courses, a spa, health club, and two tennis courts that can be used at night.

Another resort that is not too far away from Fiesta Texas is the Omni San Antonio. This hotel is gorgeous and the food is delicious. I have attended meetings and conferences in this hotel. It is right off of I-10 near Wurzbach at 9821 Colonnade Blvd. This is close to the airport and a great shopping center called the Colonnade, along with a movie theater.

There is an indoor pool along with an outdoor pool, a health club, jacuzzi, sauna, but no spa. Kids can play in-room Nintendo and there are other Omni Kid features as well.

Motels In San Antonio Texas

There are many budget-friendly motels in San Antonio Texas. Most have pools and are near to fast food places, restaurants, theaters, and stores. The rooms are clean and comfortable. No, they do not have the amenities of hotels, but you can take a shower and sleep in a clean, comfy bed and watch TV.

There are so many that I will not name them here. Depending on what part of the city you want to stay in, you can choose one by going to Google and typing in "San Antonio Motels near ______".
A large listing will come up.

I recommend making reservations ahead of time, especially in the summer or during Fiesta in April because we have a lot of tourists come in. There are so many motels in the city that you will be able to find room if you do not make reservations but you may end up farther away from where you want to be.

The good thing about visiting such a large city is that if you don't like one of the motels in San Antonio Texas, you can find a different motel the next day. New ones have been going up all over Northwest San Antonio. This is the area of town where I live so I have seen a lot of them going up in the past few years, many near where I live.

If you live in San Antonio and have out of town relatives or friends coming in and you do not have enough room in your home for them, you can choose a motel near your home. Don't choose one on the other side of town. Visit the motel ahead of time to make sure that it will work for your relatives. Ours have stayed in various motels around us and we have gone to visit the rooms and see what they offer. We have not run into any bad ones yet. Just use a chain name that you are familiar with. You can get some good deals in comparison to hotel prices.

RV Parks San Antonio Texas

Maybe you have an RV. There are many RV parks San Antonio Texas has for your camping convenience. They are both family-friendly and budget-friendly so if you can afford the gas to get your trailer here, we can find a great place for you to park it while you enjoy the sites of San Antonio.

One of the most popular parks anywhere in the country is the KOA RV park and we have one here. It is located five miles away from downtown San Antonio, at I-35 SB Exit 160 AT&T Cntr Pkwy (formerly SBC Cntr Pkwy), turn left under the bridge and go to the second light which is Gembler Road. Turn left and go 3/4 mile.

If you do not want to drive into town, take a Via bus into the city.

The good thing about staying at an RV park is that you sleep on your own bed. You know that it is clean and that your bathroom is clean. You do not have to pack up and unpack. You do not need to worry about whether the cleaning lady will rob you blind. You can sleep as late as you want without the cleaning lady coming in to bother you. You can eat in the RV much cheaper than in the hotel and you don't have to worry about whether or not pets are allowed.

For a listing of additional RV Parks in San Antonio, do a Google search using "rv parks in San Antonio" and a long list of RV parks in and around San Antonio will come up.

Via San Antonio

Via San Antonio is the San Antonio bus service. Buses serve all over the city so if you do not want to drive to tourist attractions, you can take the bus.

We have a program called "park and ride". Whenever there is a big Spurs game or in February during the rodeo, not to mention in April during Fiesta, roads and parking lots are extremely crowded making it very unpleasant to drive. San Antonio bus service has several places around the city where you can park your car and get on a Via bus, pay a set fee and they take you to the event and bring you back to where you parked.

It is a great service and traffic headaches are no longer yours. It is very popular and is used whenever something really big is happening in the city. So if you happen to be visiting the city then, just drive your car over to one of the parking lots, pay the fee which is usually $5 and leave the driving to Via!

Now the regular bus fee is not $5. The regular bus fee one way with one transfer is $1.If you want to call them, their number is (210)362-2020 or if you need to call toll free, dial 1-866-362-2020. On holidays and weekends, Via San Antonio bus schedules change slightly so be sure that you check with them.

They will take you downtown if you are intimidated by driving down there. I sure am. They go to the malls and tourist attractions so you can ride them all over town. The only problem with them is that on some routes, they show up once an hour so you might have a long wait.
