So you're looking to keep a newt or newts as a pet. Newts are one of the cheapest and easiest pets to take care of. You won't need much to get started, I would recommend a 10 gallon tank for up to three newts. When building your new taranium I suggest having 1/3 land and 2/3 water, make sure the water is at least 6 inches deep. You will notice that adult newts spend most of their time under water. The land should slope into the water making it easy for the newts to climb in and out. Like most amphibians it is important that your newts are constantly around water. If your newt gets too dry it could die.You should purchase a filter to keep the water toxin free, keep in mind you want a filter with a very small current. Since newts spend so much time under water I you should also purchase an aerator to keep the water oxygenated. Under water plants, either real or plastic, are a way to make your newts habitat feel more like home. Newts do well at room temperature, to be safe, you could purchase a tank heater for the cooler months. Keep your newts new home out of direct sunlight and make sure they have plenty of shady hiding places.

Aside from those few step, that is all you need to setup your newts aquarium. It is a very easy setup and can be done quickly and for every little money. As for feeding your newt, I usually feed mine brine shrimp and worms. Some newts will eat store bought pellets, they can be picky however, make sure your new pet is eating what you feed it.
