How to Search For an Assisted Living Facility
53
Take your time
Well first I looked up all the Facilities in the immediate area. Then I called each one and set up an appointment to visit them and see for myself how things were set up?
Look for convenience in respect to your Loved one's problems.
Of course cost..and what is provided by the Facility.
Insurance coverage .. such as Long Term Care Insurance.
When meals are served and what sort of food is provided. Special diet needs.
Assistance in cleaning of the room, distributing meds, visitors stays and entertainment.
Also is there a Nurse available, emergency pull cords in the rooms, and monitors to wear around their necks.
How are Doctor visits handled, Churchs in the area, and emergency care.
Changes of address both to the Post Office and all Insurance Policies, and just how is Mail handled at the Facility.

A cousin of mines had this task a couple of years ago - Appointments allows some facilities to polish up their selling fronts. It is better to consult with your place of worship for the facilities.
My cousin decided on a nursing home; however, she was not pleased with the facility. She applied for handicap housing and moved her mother [who needs 24/7 care] from the nursing home to the handicap apartment. My cousin also has medical staff helpers who visits twice daily.
My spouse's mom [90s] still lives in her home and has a day-time assistant to help her around the house.
This is all true..but I live in a small town and there are only a few assisted living facilities to chose from. I spoke with each director, checked the rooms, had lunch in their dining room, and spoke with the nurse. In each facility...but still it is difficult to know all there is to know..until you live there for awhile. It has been a real learning experience...And I thank you for your comment...very much G-Ma
