How Can My Boat Get Water Damaged
64If you have ever owned a boat before, then you might know the many different ways that your boat can sustain damage from the water it was built to travel on. Just because they were made to ride in on the water does not mean that they are supposed to get water on the inside and this happens more often than you might have realized when you bought one. Boats are perfectly equipped to stay in the water, but you do have to keep the water out of the boat.
You might think that as long as your boat does not spring a leak somewhere that that will be all you have to worry about, but that is not always true. If you own a smaller boat that you put in and out of the water as you use it, chances are it might not ever sustain any other kind of water damage if you keep it covered well with a tarp or keep it inside of a garage. When you choose to keep your boat at a dock and leave it in the water, this is another story.
People who have might have the smallest houseboats to a large yacht are in danger of having their boats flooded or damaged on the inside when driving rain can flood into them or if extreme waves wash over the sides and cause water to get inside. Many times these things can cause a boat to take on enough water inside and they might sink on one end, one side, or all the way under the water of the dock. This has happened to many people when storms that are severe enough take place and cause the boat to rock with enough force to allow the waves to wash on board.
If you have the opportunity to pull your boat out of the water and take it to a safer dry place when you know far enough in advance that a severe storm is coming, this is for the best. That is not always possible though and this is when you need to be sure your have your boat insured to cover any damage like this. Sometimes a boat that sustains inside water damage can be salvaged and repaired, but in cases of severe damage an insurance company might total it completely and replace it when it makes more sense to.
