The best advice i can give you is from my own experience, i was born lactose and it really bites at times!!

Specially when u want ice cream!! Anyways, if you have a CVS Drug Store they have their own brand of dairy pills, they are completely safe, its just a enzyme sp? that we lack in our stomch to digest dairy, this pill gives us that enzyme. I do not know how old your child is, but i take 3 before i eat and 1 after, but that is after years of taking just the simple 2 pills the bottle says, but as i get older i get worse and worse, i almost cant eat ice cream period. Its worth a try and it cant hurt.
