How I got interested in Computers
58How I thought of PCs at first
Before the Pentium or 586 series of the Intel, I hated computers. They all looked just like an electric typewriter to me that had a TV screen with the ability to save your work. The hand calculator was more of a computer for me. It was just funny for me when those early viruses would just suddenly pop-out on the screen. I laughed hard when a friend got that Satan virus and suddenly popped out on his screen. He was thrown back on his chair away from his PC! Then there were those who did not have the Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS). I would hear all kinds of curses from them when electricity would suddenly be shut off. That's because they have not saved their work! The same thing happens before when they leave the PC with unsaved work and somebody else uses the computer. All the hard work is gone and lost. What I also did not like was hearing from computer users and dealers then, was upgrades in less than a year. A lawyer friend of mine spent a fortune upgrading from 186 to 486, I think.

With the advent of Pentium I, it was only then that it got me interested along with a Windows 95 operating system. It worked marvels! It was really working like a computer should. As a starter then, I had to ask my son on how to go about it. I hated the keyboard functions and commands. What got me almost disinterested again was when the Windows 95 OS would just bog down in three month intervals. Every time I had to call the technician for reinstallation, for a fee each time. Maybe the guy had it in his conscience that on the fourth time it happened, he just charged me a small amount and gave me a bootable floppy disk! He has been charging me 5 times the amount of the floppy for every reinstallation he did! What a crook or was my fault being stupid at computers? From that point, I learned on my own about the hard wares and soft wares. Learned a few tricks on my own. Microsoft was saying dual boot of Windows 2000 was not possible. I was able to do it on our Pentium I. The next we had was a branded Pentium II that gave us really good service. It was given by my brother and I had to tinker with it to operate properly. Technically, I am not good but I know where and what to find in case something goes wrong. It was too slow though for the internet and that was the time we decided to buy a Dual Core with Windows XP. After observing closely the first time it was serviced by the dealer, it is me now who services it with better results. This is what I wrote about on one of my articles here.
