How Much Content Should Be in Your Hubpage?

Content is king for online writers either looking to monetize their work or to share information and ideas.  How much content you include in your written work depends on the subject matter.  If the information is to explain a function then you need to write a thorough explanation of the procedure about which you are writing.  You need to answer exploratory questions that your intended audience will ask about the procedure.

When you write your article, you are to assume that the person knows nothing at all about the procedures even though they may be laymen and understand snippets of your subject.  Writing content to inform is relative to teaching a class.  You do not know what the student know and some students may be well versed in the subject.  Your job as a teacher is to convey the information to the entire class and not just to a few.  As content is king, you are to write about the information with complete details.

Details are not vague and are not a round about way of writing your online article.  Each time that a new procedure is entered into your hubpage article, you must explain it step by step.  Listing is valuable in writing because it gives the reader a platform in which to include chronologically or procedurally steps of a process.  The most popular content for online writing is the "How to" articles and the "About" articles. When you list and explain each step and each procedure, then there should not be a question about whether or not your included enough information.

Reread your hubpage article  and make sure that the reader is not left with a question mark after completing the article.  If you list and explain details and be specific about the subject matter, the task of completing the article thoroughly will be easier.  Do not use the start to finish approach to writing when you know that content is king.  That type of approach will leave out important points or important steps to the process or context of information.  Get in the habit of listing down your ideas with cohesiveness so that once you began to write, your ideas will make sense and you will not leave out important information.

The listing of information when writing for relevant content has to be implemented with an explanation.  The explanation of the listing is the provisions for the contents of your hubpage article.  Numbered or itemized explanations are useful when writing for relevant content because it gives the reader a direction in which to focus attention and to grasp information in a logically manner.  Also the reader has some idea of the completion of the article when listings and explanations are numbered.  However, do not get bogged down in listings and explanations because all writings will not require that format.

The amount of content in your hubpage can usually be sustained with a 800 to 1500 word count.  You should not concentrate solely on the word count as your attention has to be on the reader and your intended audience.  Answering the who, what, when, where, how and why of an issue or or an informative article will give you the props you need to complete your article and fulfill its purpose.

Hi linda

Good article! However, I am confused to a point. Many times I have heard it said on Hubpages that the most successful hubs are usually longer, up to a 1000 words as you said. Yet as I was reading on several sites today, copywriters advised to keep your online articles around 300 words because readers don't usually have a very long attention span. I wonder which is the best to follow....longer or shorter hub. Also I've read if you are too thorough your readers aren't as likely to click on the ads for more knowledge. What do you think?

seamist, thank you for your comment. Hubpages is funded as well as the writers by Google Adsense. Google Adsense uses a "bot" to scan the writing for popular keywords. If a internet user clicks on an ad with loaded with keywords, then Hubpages and Google gets 60 per cent of the revenue and the writer or hubber gets 40 per cent. In that case, it is more advantageous to write a longer article so the propensity to produce keywords will be greater.

Copywriters are gearing their topics and relevant information to the reader. Copywriters are looking to secure the attention of the internet surfer who may see their article while searching for another subject of interest. In that case, the internet user may only read a short paragraph of 300 words or less and the copywriter will be satisfied. However, if you examine the article closely it will more often than not have no more than 5 percent of keywords. Why? Because Google is aware of profiteers who will load an article with keywords just to get revenue from Google Adsense by overloading their ads with Google Adwords saturated with keywords. When Google emerged and profiteers realized how Google worked with revenue building keywords, a few companies built software that was overloaded with keywords for increased revenue.

Now Google is knowledgeable of profiteers who write only for the Google "bot" and will not process any revenue payments if the article is overloaded with keywords. That is why most writing sites have to verify that a human is writing the article and will ask for the internet user to type in peculiar and chaotic alphabets before accepting online information. Computer software has not been able to master what a human can do to decipher randomly placed alphabets.

As a general rule, the introductory paragraph should have only 200 words and the article should have up to 1500 words so that Google can scan for keywords. Hubbers should be writing to the relevant audience and should incorporate no more than 5 per cent keywords in their overall article to be recognizable to Google and to obtain revenue.

Hubpages are acceptable longer for the reasons mentioned because your audience is not looking for keywords but most likely than not help on a particular subject of just information. Copywriters are looking to catch the internet surfer who may be searching and needs to have them click on keywords to get revenue from Google. The attention span is not long for these internet users because they may not be searching for the information contained in the copywrite article. Just as ads are normally not long in length, the copywriter articles is not long in length. The article is written to catch the attention of the internet surfer as the television ad is used to catch the attention of the televison watcher between television episodes.

If you are writing a hubpage artice follow the guidelines and write up to 1500 words of relevant information on your topic of choice.
