How Much Does it Take to Open up a Boutique: My Estimates on How Much Money it Takes to Open up a Boutique

There are many things that have to be considered when you are thinking about starting a boutique. You have to worry if you are capable of selling clothing to strangers, whether you will be approved for a business loan, if you will be taken seriously, and a million other things. One of the things you should really think about is how much how much it does it take to open a boutique.

Consumer Analysis

The first expense you will have when getting ready to start is a consumer analysis. This is certainly not the place to skimp on cost. The consumer analysis is what will help you figure out if a boutique will be successful in your region. The other things the consumer analysis will do is show you the best demographic to target, the type of clothing that will be of the most interest to potential customers, and the price range that will be considered reasonable.

The Mortgage

If the consumer analyst comes back showing that opening a boutique could be a profitable investment you will need to find a building. Once you have found a building that suits your needs you will, unless you are independently wealthy, need to get a business loan. When you are applying for a business loan you should contact several bank managers. The prices of commercial buildings are normally based on size, condition and location. The more banks that will approve you for a loan the more likely you are to get a slightly lower interest rate.

The Contractor

At the same time you are preparing yourself to go around to the banks applying for a business mortgage you also have to think about what will need to be done to convert the building into an elegant boutique. Typically a potential boutique owner will take bids from contractors. A mistake that many boutique owners make is going with the lowest bid submitted. It is tempting to save money by taking the lowest bid but you should first check the company's reputation, do they have a positive history of doing quality work, or are they a company who saves money by cutting corners, creating problems that you will have to deal with later.

The Employees

Unless you plan to be your boutiques sole employee you are going to have to hire some people to help you keep things running smoothly. When you are hiring people you will have to make sure you have enough money set aside to pay several weeks of salary. Make sure you will also be able to pay your payroll taxes.

The Merchandise

The building, the employees, the grand opening sale. All of these are things that are necessary but when it all comes down the only thing your customers are going to really notice is your merchandise. Make sure you have saved enough money to stock your store with quality clothing.
