What is Click Fraud?
Adsense is almost a perfect package, publishers stand to make a lot of money out of it and advertisers get more than their moneys worth. The reason why I used the word almost is that Adsense has one major flaw and that is click fraud. Clicking advertisements for the purpose of making money in the case of publishers clicking on own ads and clicking on a competitors advertisements in the case of advertisers trying to waste competitors' money constitutes Adsense Click Fraud. This is a very serious issue and if caught, you will be banned and removed from the Adsense program forever. Many people try to be smart by cloaking IP addresses, using different computers etc etc, but my friends please take my word for it, YOU WILL GET CAUGHT EVENTUALLY because many people seem to forget that they are dealing with Google here. Google has far superior technology than what Analytics offers and in my opinion, analytics is simply amazing as you can even trace a click from even a remote village in South India. Do you really think that you could outsmart Google?
How NOT to be involved with Adsense Click Fraud
1) Please ensure that your web host offers server and access logs. I know these logs are a bit confusing to novices but as soon as you get these server logs hand them over to Google. Offering your server logs to Google effectively kills two birds with one stone because it allows Google to track and report any suspicious activity on your website and you will be regarded as trying to help Google to solve clickfraud problems and are willing to go the extra mile.
2) Try to learn how to monitor your server logs, it is pretty easy but may take a bit of time to get used to it. Make sure that you report anything odd that you find.
3) Get yourself a free click monitoring software. These can be found on the internet are usually free.
4) Once again, please ensure that you send all the information you receive straight to Google as you should remember that you too are fighting the good fight against click fraud.

5) Ensure that your ads are not being displayed on content that promotes illegal activity or tampers with the legal rights of other businesse or people including adult and gambling related material. If you are unsure about where you stand with some of your content, it is often safer to remove Adsense from the content concerned or remove the content altogether just to be on the safe side.
6) ALWAYS confess to Google about times when you may have breached their TOS or when you have accidentally clicked on your own ads be it intentionally or by mistake. Remember that it is better to confess about it rather than being caught out eventually and trust me, you will.
7) Using an htaccess file will allow you to disable ads for your own IP address and even ads for your local geographic area. Why is this a good idea? Well, it will definitely prevent accidental clicking and Google will not mistake you for another user. This tip will certainly prevent a possible ban through accidental clicking and perhaps save you from a jealous neighbhour who might atempt to get you banned.
8) Try to keep your online money making campaign to yourself wihout telling your friends or family because this may do you more harm than good as friends and family will deliberately click on your ads to try to help you make some money, in reality they may get you banned due to clickfraud. If your friends or family eventually chance on your website or article, ensure that you brief them to NOT click on your ads. Remember my friends, your dealing with Google here.
9) Use “negative keywords” to stop your adsense showing on completely unrelated products.
10) Last but not least, make sure you read Googles tips and advice on how to avoid click fraud and the measures that Google have put in place to protect webmasters from clickfraud.
