How Style Is An Extension Of Personality
65
Where does style come from?
When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Do you see flawless makeup, intricate lines of mascara, and rich lip gloss? Do you see a minimalist face, clear of makeup except a light touch of blush?
Well if one hasn't already noticed, our personality uncovers itself in our personal style. A rocker style exemplifies a rebel, the prep style is worn by the clean cut kid, and the gothic style is worn by the intellectual outcast. It is through our style that one can get in touch with their personality. To fully embrace one's personality and style in life, it in the end creates a more confident and whole individual.
Style In Your Life
To embrace style, is to reaffirms one's identity. To reaffirm ones identity is to reaffirm one's unique personality. Let no social stigmas hold you back from wearing what you want. If your friends think the preppy look is snobby, but you like it, then go for it. It your gothic friends shun the exhibitionist rockers, but you are allured by it, then why not go for it!
What we choose to wear is an extension of our personality, and that should be enouraged, not inhibited.
Same goes for what we choose for our hair style. Do your friends tease you if you decide to have a longer cut, calling it feminine (for the guys)? Well they're opinions don't matter. It is you that is going to have this hairstyle, so it is YOUR opinion that matters most. Thus, you should go with what you like.
In terms of hobbies, such as dance, again, let no one inhibit you. I knew a guy in high school who was the only guy in the cheerleading team. He was very friendly, and still retained his masculinity because he was confident, and able to accept that he was a cheerleader. In fact, the ladies loved him. They admired his acrobatics, and how well he performed with the cheerleaders.
So, is anything stopping you from embracing your style? Whether it be friends, family or society's stigma, your style is an extension of your personality. To nurture it is strengthening your own self confidence, and affirmation of identity.
Never be afraid to embrace your style.
