How To Add YouTube Videos To A Hub

YouTube videos are fun and often educational elements that can be added to a Hub. To add a YouTube video to your hub you will not need an account, but I recommend signing up for one anyway. Another thing I suggest is to research and buy a video camera, which will enable you to make your own YouTube videos to add to Hubs. Right now I am using the Aiptek A-HD 720P5MP CMOS High Definition Camcorder, which allows me to take videos that I can upload to YouTube and take pictures of up to 8 mega-pixels. I still use other YouTube videos, but when and where possible I try to take all of my own pictures and film my own YouTube videos. This is not possible if you want to show a small segment of a movie, but this is pertinent if you want to create a Hub about a topic that is near and dear to you. For example, if you are writing a Hub about your favorite football game I would recommend taking along your video camera to catch a few clips of the game, and add some of your own commentary whilst/while filming. When people go to YouTube they will be searching for videos about this team or sport, and if they happen to watch your video they may click on the explanation right next to it. In the explanation of of the video you can display a link to your hub, which will prompt a few people to click on it and to see what it is all about. However, first I shall be demonstrating how to add a YouTube video to your Hub.

Step 1: Select The YouTube Video

Select the video that you would like to add to the Hub.
Select the video that you would like to add to the Hub.

For this short demonstration I have decided to add the very first video I ever made, which is entitled Winnie The Pooh And Eeyore As Salt And Peper Shakers. This video is very silly and cheesy, but I decided to just film something quickly do ensure the camera was working correctly. The first thing you want to do is go to YouTube and select The video you will be adding to your Hub. Refer to the url address of the video and right click to copy it.

Step Two: Select The Video Capsule

Go to edit mode in the Hub and select the video capsule. It is on the upper right hand side of the screen.
Go to edit mode in the Hub and select the video capsule. It is on the upper right hand side of the screen.

Step Three: Add The YouTube URL To The Video Capsule

Add the url of the YouTube video to the video capsule on the Hub.
Add the url of the YouTube video to the video capsule on the Hub.

First, use the up and down arrow keys on the video capsule to determine where in the Hub it should be located. Next, open the video capsule and add the url address of the YouTube video you would like to save. I would suggest hitting the preview button just to make sure the video will display properly on your Hub. Last, hit save and now the YouTube video has been succesfully added to the Hub. After you are finished editing the entire Hub hit the publish button to see how it looks. If you decide your Hub is still not complete you can always go back and edit. Hope this little demonstration was helpful and thanks for asking me to answer this request.

Thank for commenting Aswhinspga. Below each YouTube video you can click on the Statistics and Data tab to see which website are linking to a video. If your hub is linking to a video it may be shown here, but usually only the first websites with the highest view of the video will be shown, which is where making your own YouTube videos comes in. When you make your own YouTube video you have much more control and you can add a link to your hub in the explanation of the video.

Thank you SweetiePie, Great information. I'm not ready (well, I'm ready, but time won't allow me) to do my video. I really believe that video is the way to go and I appreciate your sharing. I'm going to favorite this so I can find it later. We purchased the Flip and it seems to be OK, but it seems to work up close only. I like it, but I question how well it will work where a better zoom is needed.

OK, I'm finished rambling about a subject I know nothing about. Thank you for enlightening me. ~ eddie

Under submit it is refering to the url of a website as it is not appreciated when we post our hubs in the url. However, I think it is best for us not to put any url on those comments, just my two cents. Thanks for commenting :)>

Thanks Sweetiepie, as I've come to expect from you, once again a very high standard Hub.

Lots of info to absorb and as you get older the retention part of the old grey matter seems to not work so well.

So I'll just have to r and r .

I did not quite pick this point up in your description yet, but can you use other people's videos in your own Hub. Naturally with thier permission.

You can use any video from youtube you like because these are embedded and still being shown through YouTube. I just prefer to use some of my own videos because I can place a url back to my hubs.

I was wondering how to do it. Now I knew it. But still I'm afraid. Can we use other's video clippings from u tube to our hubs?will it not infringe copyright?

Prasadjain,

Please read the help section of Hubpages help, they allow people to use YouTube videos. These are embedded and still being shown through the video providers. It is perfectly okay.

is there a way to get the you tube videos to show up on the side of the hub rather than underneath the article?
