Having a healthy balance in your life when are a work at home mom can be a challenge. With so many priorities, needs and people competing for your attention, how do you keep it all from coming apart?

It comes down to many factors, however with a well planned and organized routine, coupled with a strong self discipline and you are well on your way. Be prepared to work out a schedule that suits your family, then stick to it. That doesn't mean you become inflexible, not by any means. Every WAHM mom will tell you that when it comes to managing work and home life.....flexibility is essential.

Be mindful of the need for YOU time. Start finding that balance between work and home.
Be mindful of the need for YOU time. Start finding that balance between work and home.
  • Getting a balance in your life improves your chances of making it a happy home & successful business.

  • Just because you are starting a business doesn't mean you can ignore the basic day to day tasks to care for yourself, your family and your home.

How To Create Balance In Your Life

Make time everyday to;

Be Alone With Your Thoughts

Even if the only time you get to do this is when you are in the shower....use it. Think positive thoughts, be constructive and encouraging in your thoughts to yourself. Try not to think about the next campaign or email your are going to send instead think of the big picture. After all no matter what tasks you need to get though that day, it is going to be much easier if you have a good frame of mind.

Do Chores

If it's home chores, like folding the washing or doing business chores, like filing and record keeping the best way to cope is to stay on top of everything. As tempting as it might be to leave your business record keeping and put it off.....it is much easier to do a little bit often, then the job doesn't seam so much like a massive effort.

Spend Some Time With Your Family

Ok this one is obvious I know, but I mean really spend time with your family. Get down on the floor and play lego, tickle your kids, read to them, whatever you can enjoy as quality time together. This time really should be treasured. Those messy, noisy, demanding darlings are probably your motivation for running your business - so, stay motivated and hug your kids often!

Get Some Exercise

Look after your body and it will look after you. Get some fresh air in your lungs and enjoy the beauty outdoors and the break away from the computer. You will be surprise that great thoughts and ideas can come anywhere and anytime. I personally get a clearer perspective when I step outside and take the kids to the park.

Contribute To Your Business

Some-days you are not going to get thought even half of your TO DO list. Deal with it and move on. This is part of the package for a stay at home mom. Maybe the kids are sick, you have appointments to attend, shopping to do, and I promise the phone IS going to interrupt you.....all of this comes before your business. Instead of thinking about all the things you didn't do that day, just tell yourself that the day is done and you have done the best you possibly can.

Contribute To Yourself

Do something that is going to improve your mind or health. As a SAHM you are a very valuable asset to the company and your family. Be kind to yourself and don't over criticize. Read a book, or do your nails it doesn't matter what it is as long as it's all about YOU.

Enjoy your experience and the wonderful journey to success as a WAHM.

For me, I find connecting with other Moms is a great way to keep a positive perspective. Find a group of friends with similar interests or join a club in your local area.

Visit your local library and enquire about reading sessions for the children. Our town has regular book appreciation mornings for children's and parents of pre school aged children. If your children are older perhaps there are other mothers from the kids sports club that you can share some of the everyday life experiences with.

Another great way is via online forums. If you are a work at home mom then you will find there a thousands of sites you can join for free and chat with other moms.

Thanks, it can be hard to find a plan that works for everyone, but it's not impossible. Work at it and stay patient and flexible. Appreciate your comment.

Hi Shaye! I came to read your hub to find out what a WAHM was so I have learned something - I am not one although I was once a WAHD! lol

Great advice given in your article!

Smiles - that's funny. WAHD's should get just as much credit (if not more) than us moms. Stay balanced : )

Shaye,

It is very hard to keep a balance when you are a WAHM. I was a manicurist who worked out of my home for 10 years as my children were babies and it was always a juggling act! I still believe it was better than working out of the home during that time in their lives. Working mommies have it hard either way because they really already have a full time job, don't they!
