You Would Like To Be A Part Of The Change In Attitude But....

You have a hard time with all the fanatical ideas your humankind keep pushing down your throat. You know the push is on for all the world to jump in and pay attention to the environment. Your own habits and your actions toward this movement are possibly slacking. Though It seems the entire world is thinking green, you don't feel the need or desire to make life changes in your own habits.

Even though many Humans around the globe are taking charge to make a better environment, you might not feel like there is much you can really do so you tell your self," SELF, what's the point?". You can hardly help but think about it because it is plastered on the TV, Radio, News Paper Headlines and everywhere else you turn but, all in all you just don't feel you can make a difference.

You have to admit, at least to yourself, that all the hooting and hollering is catching on and maybe you have been a bit reluctant to join the forces. But, then you keep hearing a voice in the back of your head that says you should try to do your part. The thing is, you do not want to become one of those Fanatics. It is just Not Your Style. Well I am here to tell you that you can join in the movement without becoming a dyed in the wool, true to the name, TREE HUGGING ACTIVAST.

That's right! I am going to show you just a few simple strategies that will allow you to make some sort of contribution to the cause without sacrificing a thing. I am poorQpine and, I have ways to help HUMANS help the world in small ways that will really count.

Order On Line

So you do not want to give her $20. or your credit card, and you do not feel like going to a local nursery. You can order the tree online, copy the invoice, fold it into a card, draw a tree on it...blah blah blah. Give it to your wife, same good cause, you get the credit and save on the AC bill. Now I Ask You, " How can you go wrong?" Pretty bright idea for a dumb animal, wouldn't you agree?

Here Are A Few Simple Ideas

Plant a small tree, that is one that does not grow too large, so that it will cast a shade on your a/c unit outside. All you have to do is buy a young sapling, dig a nice hole for it and drop it in the ground where it will provide shade for your air conditioning unit.

You think it sounds like too much labor? Here is a nice idea to go with it.

Purchase the tree as a gift for your wife, tell her you had a good idea on how to save 10% on your utility cost for using the AC. Statistics have proven that planting a tree to shade the AC unit will increase the efficiency by 10%.

Handcraft A Greeting Card

Okay and if you are really smart you can just get a brown paper bag, cut a 6"x10" rectangle from it. Fold the rectangle in half to make a 5"x 6" card from the paper. Now, in your "childlike" best, draw a simple tree on the front and write something cute, like, FOR YOU! Inside place a $20. bill a gift certificate or your credit card, however you feel comfortable. " Please go buy a tree to plant near the AC" should be written inside. Sign it " WITH LOVE" !

Talk about ohs and ahs! You will have her eating out of your hand. Females love that stuff, wouldn't you agree? She will think she married a true genius and YOU will know she did!

Make sure to tell the wife to get something pretty and on the smaller side. A flowering crab apple would be pretty and you will be doing something for the wildlife in your neighborhood too. How nice! This will NOT make you a FANATIC, you see? Plus you escape the labor by having the wife plant her new tree or have her get the kids to help. Be wise about it and you will have everyone else handling the chore while you can take the credit.

Trust me,

poorQpine.

Recount What Contribution You Have Made

  • One small tree and you managed to lower the cost of operating your AC unit.
  • You made the wife think you were really smart.
  • You contributed to the food and shelter of locally native wildlife.
  • If you purchased online you saved a trip to the nursery and saved gas.
  • The tree helps reduce pollution by filtering the air.

Wow I am proud of you. See how easy it can be? You can do your part to help our environment and never leave your computer chair. Now ain't that something? Going green does not mean having to stop being a lazy, inconsiderate, thoughtless, selfish HUMAN. You can hold on tight to all those wonderful attributes and be sly as a fox about it. Trust me, poorQpine.

I cut down on my bean intake, I thought I was contributing to global warming, but I think your tree idea is great, and necessary.

G-Ma, It would only be you to have those trees already planted. You are a Wise Bird, for a HUMAN that is! Glad you still come to visit me. Made my tail quills shiver with thrilldom!

Thanks for reading midnightbliss.

HoopSkirtMan, I guess you best set the skirt aside and do the digging in your jockies, wouldn't want to dirty your dainties.

Now, poorQpine, you know that me and anything green just aren't good together. Don't ever let Kermit get too close to me.

Shirley,

You must be part porcupine. I don't care much for the slippery little green critters either. they always seem to have a way of startling you when you least expect it. Make you hurt yourself and scream like a woman, which is hard on the macho image.

But I have one question. What about a good margarita on the rocks? Might make you less squeamish too!

PoorQpine,

I must say that your cunning ideas could be received by some women as the description you left at the bottom of this hub! You claim to be an animal! I will not hold it against you because I like the idea of helping our planet, however,

You are skating on thin ice!

C.S. Alexis.....The temperature here is making it impossible to skate, the creek is flowing, Ah, but, me, poorQpine is a fantastic swimmer. My fat belly keeps me aloat. Smile to you.

Did you have a hoopskirt on? Seems like that might serve as a flotation device.

Is your A/C Unit shaded or will you be planting a tree?

Planting a tree (the trees) is great. And easy.Very easy. And...somehow everyone feels so good after that, because it is right thing to do that. I have already planted cca 30 (around my weekend house) but this is not enough. We use much more trees for all sorts of paper products, sometimes heating, house building etc. If everyone does that, this world will look like paradise again.

Thank you very much for great, inspirative Hub.

A lots of love...

Surly you jest! I am living on tree bark. I have lost a few pounds. There is a foot of snow on the ground and the night temperatures have been dropping down to the negative digits. Why yesterday the high temperature during the day was -1. I am old and this weather is hard for me to handle. My feet hurt and my claws have grown brittle over the years. I was trying to make my way down the tree a few nights ago and my claws just snapped.

Two were broken back into the quick. I tumbled and fell to the ground landing flat on my back. I was fortunate there was 6 " of snow to pad my fall but I am quite sure I broke something in my neck. I can hardly turn in either direction. I made my way to a den I know of but, my claws were bleeding from the broken nails.

I have gone underground since then living from the heavy laden boughs of low branches on the evergreens. I just try to eat enough to keep going but I fear the worst. It is now the dead of winter and the larger animals are desperate for food. They will pray on the weak and small.

I do not know how much longer I will be able to make the window to the young man's computer. He closed the window down hard and I liked to froze my quills off trying to pry it up. This could be my last post. Bless you SweetiePie. You have been a kind and considerate friend.
