How To Become A Twitter Addict
87In my last hub I shared how stumbleupon is fun, but Twitter is by far my favorite social network! I love being able to log in when I feel like it and share what I am looking at, or just take a gander at other people's favorite sites. Lately from watching CNN I have learned how big Twitter is becoming because all of the show hosts are on it, and many viewers even Tweet about their opinions on the current events. So what is a Tweet you ask? That is when you write a short message on Twitter letting people know what you are doing at the moment, which is much easier than logging into Blogger to write a post, and less time consuming too! Many other international and regional news sites such as the LA Times are using Twitter to promote their news stories, which is good to follow if you live in Southern California. When it comes to the news I follow CNN, BBC, and the LA Times to find out about the latest breaking news stories. Twitter is a fast and easy way for people to stay in touch, and Twitter tags help people find like minded compatriots to chat with, or "follow" as they say in Twitter speak. I had always wondered the purpose of the hash tags, and these still seem a little funny. However tags are very effect because these allow people to find a group of tweets on a particular topics, such as bikes or hot dogs. Each time when I sign into Twitter I often wonder how certain hash tags become more popular than others, and I think some people just ride the popularity train by trying out the tags on their status updates. I know I did the same thing so I could get a better feel for how the hash tags work.
What Are People Searching For On Twitter?
Would you like to take a glance at the popular topics on Twitter without signing up for the site? If so, use Twitter search to locate exactly what people are talking about this very moment. Have you ever used Google trends to get ideas for writing a Hub? If not I recommend both Twitter search and Google trends for pin pointing the popular topics of the moment, which are valuable for garnering some search engine traffic.
However, ever green topics such as home repair and crafting are also good to write about, but try using Twitter search to see if anyone is talking about a particular project more than others. Around Halloween you might see a lot of people Twittering about pumpkin carving, so that might be a good topic to write a Hub or blog about if you are stumped at the moment.
Today I typed in my home town and I saw there were quite a few websites promoting the local weather and blogs about local events, which was pretty cool. Being a citizen journalist and sharing tidbits about what is happening in your town is a good way to bring local interest to your website. Twitter is another way to let people know what you are talking about, especially if you are looking for a niche audience, or want people from a particular town to become regular traffic to your website.
Also, I searched Hubpages on Twitter search and I found quite a few of us are sharing links there. After that I typed in Blogger, Facebook, and the list goes on. It is easy to actually waste quite a bit of time doing that, but searching Twitter might be a good way to learn about popular topics to write about for your hubs. Just a suggestion, but it has given me a few ideas from time to time.
Update Your Facebook and Myspace Pages Via Twitter
Often I forget to log into Myspace and Facebook, but a simple way to update these sites is via twitter. Often I notice one of my newer hub gets traffic from Myspace or Facebook, and I was baffled because I had not logged into either social networking platform for a few days. However, I quickly realize that the automatic twitter updates were a good way to keep my other profiles fresh and up to date.

How To Share Your Photographs On Twitter
Today I read a blog written by someone who said no one over thirty should be using Facebook or Twitter. I just laughed when I saw this because who gets to dictate how others spend their free time. I used to spend a lot of time on the political forums, but I grew weary of the toxic behavior there on the part of a few who do not like seeing others points of view. Instead of wasting my time doing that I now like to update my other social networks, work on my blogs, and see what other people are writing and submitting to Twitter.
Sometimes I would just like to share a picture on Twitter, and I discovered the YFrog makes this possible. Have a cool picture from your Hub, and are you looking for a way to get a bit of extra traffic? One thing your could do is try posting an image or two to YFrog along with a short description of the link to your hub. The nice thing about this site is you can see the photos people have recently submitted to Twitter, and those who are the most active on the site. If you are anything like me you enjoy looking at pictures from around the world, and doing that is much more entertaining than listening to a few sour grapes expressing their over the top outrage about Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
Also, it never hurts to promote your hubs and blogs, especially if you have a few that you are especially proud of. Also, I enjoy using Twitter to let the world know about website and hubs people have written that I truly enjoyed. To me it is just a fun way to share, and much less prickly than the forum. I have become a Twitter addict overnight, and you might just become one too!

Hi Funnebone,
I use twitter directly because for me it is the easiest, but many people love:
This application allows people to update Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter all at the same time. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have a fun time Twittering :).
Hi SweetiePie, I have used facebook but never try twetter yet.
Are those things quite different ?
Facebook allows you to share many applications at once, but Twitter is simply a microblog. You can try it and see if you like it perhaps.
Hi my lovely lil friend, I like twitter as well, it has got me a bit of traffic and a few friends, hope you are well !
The only thing I do on Twitter is tweet the articles I write. I guess I'm too old to keep up with all of the sites. I do this and a little Facebook and that's about it.
I have twitter account but rather active. And I have few follower. I'll more serious next. thanks
Love Twitter and am totally addicted, although I tell myself I can quit anytime I want to:-) I absolutely use tweetdeck and find it simplifies the process of keeping track of my twitterfeed by giving me a real overview and many options.
You have to use Twitter for a bit before you even begin to understand what a powerful internet tool it is. Thanks for this great informative hub, Sweetiepie
Health Tip,
Glad to hear Twitter has given you a bit of traffic. Nice to see you are looking so happy and healthy :).
Pete,
Facebook and Twitter are among the best tools for promoting your hubs, so that is good to hear you are using both.
prasetio,
I hope you have fun rediscovering the Twitter site, and remember you can promote each Hub on Twitter after it is published.
robie,
I have been on Twitter for almost a year, but it was only during the last few months I became more active on the site. Actually this hub was inspired by my quest to figure out how to share photos on Twitter, and now I know YFrog is a good tool for that. Thanks for visiting!
I love Twitter and it helps one to become a better writer too. You have to learn how to structure an informative sentence in just a few words. That, carries over into your everyday writing…Thanks for the heads up on Yfrog.
Wow, 60% are Twitters. I think it's because the motto is so cute. Me, personally, never got too far with Twitter. I don't think I know how to use these tools correctly. Your hubs help.
Nancy,
Very true about the impact and brevity of writing sentences on Twitter. Thanks for sharing that tip!
Paradise,
I love the bird on Twitter too, and it makes me want to take pictures and draw :).
I don't need to become a Twitter addict...I'm already one! lol, great hub!
EWealthGuide,
Yes many of us are. Join the club of Twitter addicts :).
Nice hub. Thanks for sharing the info.
Nope not an addict to Twitter although I have an account. I can handle only one addiction at a time and during this time, it's addiction to hubpages =). Hey SP, what's your twitter name? Mine's the same =).
Twitter is a fun lil app but watch out as they suspended an acct of ours since it was linked to ezines where it automatically posts whenever we put up an article. 5K followers down the drain but we are growing again :-).
I'm on Twitter, but I confess I don't get it. Oh well
I tried keeping a twitter.
I didn't remember my password or find myself eager to follow someone and follow them around.
I didn't keep up to date with my posts and couldn't find things I liked or my friends.
Basically, let's just say I'm an individual who is not in favor of tweeting any time around now.
(Facebook is the best!
It keeps you organized, shows you who's real, and you can do anything there! From tagging to flairs to quizzes and updates and wall posts)
Twitter is much more fun - and immediate than SU, Digg or even FB. They all serve different purposes, but for me, social networking is now defined by Twitter. Great Hub!
jacobkuttyta,
Glad you enjoyed it!
emievil,
My twitter name is sweetbearies. I will definitely add you emievil. I try to stagger the days when I am addicted to one site or the other, but I have been away from the computer the last couple of days for the most part. Glad to hear from you :).
ocbill,
I have never had that problem with Twitter because I follow their rules. However, one red flag to them is if you are following more people than you have followers. Also, mass adding people is against their rules, so I would watch out for that. Follow their rules and you should be okay.
Jess,
Thanks for sharing your opinion. The point of Twitter is allowing people to discover your hubs and other web articles, and sharing other articles you might like.
MyFirstPages,
Well I will say right here many of us hubbers who use Twitter are real people, and you should not be so quick to judge. Also, many of us use Twitter in conjunction with Facebook, so all I can say is you are missing out on some potential opportunities to share your articles with others. Personally I think you might be a bit judgmental, and maybe should even reconsider why you want to be online if you are worried about who is real and not. Not trying to be hard on you, but why even have an online presence if you are so worried about these things.
Hi Steph,
Twitter is definitely a lot of fun, and my favorite :). Glad you stopped by!
Mail me the link and I will link it to my funny video website x
Oh thanks ;).
I use Twitter too, and LOVE Tweetdeck. I don't think I'd be able to keep up if it weren't for Tweetdeck.
As always, great hub! Thanks for sharing!
Thumbs up.
Hi, SP. I'm trying to talk my place of employment into doing social networking PR...but they are very, very slow on the uptake. It's frustrating! I tweet some of my articles here on hp (not consistently...I'm just too busy it seems often), but I've yet to reach addict status.
Thanks for the tips. I'll come back to this when I'm able to convince who I need to to go this route. Errr! :)
Joel,
I am not worried with keeping up with all the tweets. I just look at what ever is on top at the moment, and that is about it. However, I do understand tweetdeck is going for organizing Twitter, so I am glad to hear so many use it!
Hi Lita,
It seems more and more businesses are beginning to have a presence on Twitter, so I am sure eventually yours will too. I find it helpful for promoting my hubs, and my articles over at the examiner.com, the latter which I truly need to update soon!
I'm already a twitter addict. I really enjoy keeping up with the things and people I enjoy.
I tried to embrace Twitter but remain ambivalent about it. So many folks link to me to tell me what they have going on that I rarely go to the site--there is a bit of a feeling that it isn't mine. Perhaps I need to be more careful in selecting contacts, and weed out professional "friends" that use Twitter strictly for news or promotions.
Thanks for your hub, it was interesting and informative!
Use Twitter the best way for you Mike. Personally I do not look at all the Tweets, but simply for what is on top. Also, I definitely share links to my hubs, examiner articles, and other articles I enjoy.
I love twittering and tweeting,..for one it is a great tool. The best thing that happened to me while I was on,..was I tweeted a tweet to Rob Thomas,..you know from Matchbox Twenty and He tweeted me back,..Woo Hoo,..I was on cloud 9 all day,..silly maby,..but he's like my favorite so it was really super kewl,..LOL. I got on board with tweeterdeck and never looked back,..
I love twitter also Amry Infantry Mom. I like Match Box Twenty, and they seem like some pretty cool guys. I have only been to one of their concerts, but I did like their vibe.

Hello, Oh wise and wonderful woman. Can you tell me what is the best program to use for twitter? I just log into the site now but I read that there are better applications available. Thanks in advance for your help and existence.
