How long will it take to get this degree? Can you work as an Accountant before you have finished school? This article will answer these questions and describe how to become an accountant.

Before applying to a college to become an Accountant, make a list of your skills and goals. Some skills required in order to be a successful Accountant are math, grammar, verbal and written communication, analyzing, business orientation, organizing, being focused, and dependable. These skills are already embedded into most of us and will be addressed further while attending college. Each college will give you all the classes to prepare you for this field of work. If you are looking to go into managerial work, you will need to get a Master of Accounting degree.

Ask yourself if you want to work for someone else or you want to be self employed. When you go to the college, let them know which decision you have made so that they can gear your classes toward your goals.

Choose a school to attend by seeing which ones offer what is best for you. You will want a Bachelor's degree to become an Accountant. You can check with your local colleges, located in the yellow pages in your phone book, and you can go online to any that you know of. You can search online for colleges in your area by typing in the keywords become an Accountant and add the name of your state to the search words.

A lot of colleges offer online classes as well as going into the college in person. Online classes can save money on transportation and can be more convenient for some people.
Once you have chosen your school, you will make an appointment with them and go in to register. Then, you will meet with a financial aid advisor to find some loans, grants, etc to help pay for your schooling. Most schools will then set up placement tests to see where you are at in math and grammar. A lot of schools have a website that you can go to and take practice tests to brush up on your math and grammar. It is highly recommended for anyone to take these two classes before going to college: The Fundamentals of College Writing and The Fundamentals of College Math. This will better prepare you for two of the major requirement classes that you will need to take.
