One of the most elusive jobs in the world today is Runway Modeling. To be sashaying down the runway of the most famous fashion designers all over the world is one of the biggest dreams of little girls who want to be like their idols. Cindy Crawford, Tyra Banks, Naomi Cambell and Giselle Bundchen are just some of the famous names that are associated with fashion Runway Modeling and they have been in the industry for several years already and they have made their mark in the modeling industry.

Though this used to be a woman’s world, fashion runway modeling has opened its doors to male runway models, this was even represented in Ben Stiller’s movie Zoolander. The life of a model that was portrayed in that movie is way different from the way models in real life live.

Age. Runway fashion models usually start at a very young age. Usually 16-17 years old, when the bone structure is still very thin and not yet that developed. The same thing goes with male models. This is very crucial when starting in the modeling industry. It will take several months, or even years to be able to make it big in the industry. So starting young will allow you to have time to weave through the labyrinth of the modeling world.

Bone Structure. Fashion runway modeling is very lucrative so hundreds and thousands of people from all over the world are doing their best to get in the industry. But not everybody could have a chance to become a Runway model. More often than not, Runway models are stick thin and size zero. A strict size is observed by agencies to ensure that the models are going to fit the clothes that they are supposed to wear. Contrary to the belief that the designers create clothes for the models, the models are the ones who should fit in the clothes and not otherwise. It is always easier to make adjustments to the clothes if it is loose because the designer would only have to fold and sew the clothes wherein if the clothes are tight then the designer will have a hard time adjusting the clothes to make it big. So the body structure of the model should always be maintained at all times in order to get more runway jobs.

Facial Structure. Even if Runway top models are usually different from commercial models, they are always photographed when walking down the catwalk. These models are also the ones that do fashion editorials on top fashion magazines so a symmetrical face is really important if you want not only to enter the industry but if you really want to make it big.

Skin. Having a really great skin will be a plus factor when trying out to become a runway top model. Clothes vary from short, medium to really long gowns. So whatever clothes that may be assigned to the model, a part of skin will always be shown and seen by people who watch the shows. Although makeup can always cover some blemishes and imperfections, good clear skin would always be preferred by modeling agencies.

Attitude. You may have everything that an agency or even a designer is looking for in a fashion runway model but then if you don’t have the proper work ethics and discipline then you will never make it big in this industry. Although it has been a stereotype with top runway models to have a certain attitude it’s not really a pre-requisite. Of course when you’re one of the top models and you have been travelling a lot because of work then you might have certain problems dealing with people but that’s not an excuse to have any attitude problems right? So whether you’re just starting to be a model of you have been in the industry for a long time keeping a good attitude towards work will be a great advantage on your side.
