Most people just buy a grill, but other more innovative minds want to build a grill themselves. Some people say that a homemade Grill with Charcoal makes some really good Grilling. This is a Article for Do it yourselvers that would like to build a Grill. Grills make a party or a get-together a lot of fun, Especially if the person that is grilling knows what he/she is doing. A Lot of people spray paint there home made 55 Gallon Drum Grill. It can look really cool when your grilling on it,

The Steps

First Off: Your going to need to get your drum if you haven't already. After you have the Drum you will need to cut the Drum in-Half. This should be done Carefully and accurately. If you don't Cut it right, the Grill will not be lined up and it will be ruined.

Next: After you have cut the Drum into 2 half's you will need to henge them. If you choose to use bolts to put the hinge on, make sure you put a tack weld on the bolts so they can’t come undone easily. Same with the Handle that is on the other half. You can attach a latch to make sure the grill is closed.

After That: You Will need to build a steel frame. You can build this with left over peaces or you can buy at a Hardware Store like Home Depot. You should make the frame Sturdy and at a decent height. **Note If you have any wielding experienced you can do this.

Next: You will need to get a grill now. First measure the inside of the drum at the top were you cut the drum in half. You need the grill to sit about one inch below the lip of the drum. It is likely that you will have to go out and purchase a grill that is too big and cut it down. You will need to do this for the bottom grate too. It should sit about six inches or so off the bottom of the drum.

Next: Cut some air holes in the bottom on the sides. Cover these with a flap of metal secured by one screw so that you can rotate the metal to adjust the air flow going in and out of the grill.

Last But Not Least: Go out and buy a bag of Charcoal and start grilling on your new Home Made 55 Gallon Drum Grill!
