There are so many different reasons to cancel your AT&T Wireless service. You might want to switch providers because they have a better wireless phone plan or you may simply not want to be attached to a Wireless service anymore. No matter what your personal reason is to cancel your AT&T Wireless service you need to know exactly how to do it and what steps to take to cancel it correctly.

Read Over Your AT&T Wireless Service Contract

On your AT&T cell phone contact you will want to locate the length of the contact you agreed to. Normal cell phone contracts are for one to two years in length. Usually cell phone companies such as AT&T will charge you a cancellation fee. This cancelation fee is normally $175. They will then deduct $5 per month that you have kept your wireless service. This means if you signed a two year agreement and only kept your wireless service for 12 months you would owe AT&T $115 to cancel your wireless service. If you are not prepared to pay this fee you may want to rethink cancelling your AT&T Wireless service.

Contacting AT&T

To get in touch with AT& T you will need to dial 611 from your AT&T cell phone. You will then be directed to a wireless service representative. This is where things may get a little tricky for those who tend to bend under pressure. The wireless service representative will try to convince you to stay with AT&T wireless. He may even try to offer you a better AT&T service plan or a discount to keep your cell phone contact. If you find that the deal they offer you on your AT&T plan is worth staying with them, then good for you that you have found a deal that works. If you are set on cancelling your wireless service contact with AT&T you will need to hold firm to your choice.

Remove the SIM Card

Once your AT&T wireless service has been terminated remove and destroy your SIM card. You should never just throw out the SIM card incase the service has not yet been deactivated. You can still keep your AT&T cell phone even though you do not have the AT&T wireless contact. There is a good chance you will be able to use your original cell phone with a new company outside of AT&T wireless service.
