How To Choose The Best Goals

If you are like most people, you started off the new year by setting some new personal goals. Did you set so many goals that you are now beginning to already feel overwhelmed by the enormity of them? Is your list of goals so long that you don’t even know where to begin? Here’s how to get past this hurdle.

First, pare down your list of goals. Yes, that’s right. Knock some of them off the list. If you take a closer look, you will probably find that many of your goals are relatable. If you have two or three goals that could be summed up into a single goal, do just that. By the time you finish this, you should have at least trimmed your list by half.

Second, decide what you really want to accomplish this year. A lot of people set goals that are meaningless to them, but seem great in the moment. So instead of having a big list of goals that you don’t really care about, think about three to five things at the most that you would like to accomplish in the next twelve months. Everything else is gravy.

Third, focus your time and energy into those goals—and those only. Quite often, you will feel the rush of excitement when your goals are fresh and new. Only after you start working on them, do you become bored and encumbered by them. Usually this is when you start to slip and lose focus and get sidetracked doing other things that do not fit into the big picture. When you reach this point (and you will!), harness your mind and thoughts. Remind yourself of why you want to accomplish your goals. Then get back on track and busy working on them again.

Hope,

These steps are exactly what I adopted in August 2008 when I drew my goals for 2009.

I want to get married, get my masters Degree in the UK, and publish at least two of my books that have been in the cooler for sometime now.

I hope my strategies would work and my target met.

Thanks for the reminder.

It sounds like you know exactly what you want, and that's an important first step to reaching your goals. :)

Yeah! I have target goals before. It didn't work! Actually, all in all, you must have lots of discipline to get to all your goals successful.
