Dealing with cat urine is an unpleasant task that cat owners dread.

While it is easy to get angry at the cat, cats do not urinate outside the litterbox because they are stupid or are trying to punish their owner.

Cats, being the clean animals that they are, abhor peeing where they eat, sleep or play. When kitty stops using the box some investigations as to why is a must in order to stop the behavior.

Then, finding the proper cleaner is a must as well. Many commercial cleaners are only masking the urine odor with chemicals. Homemade cleaners can be OK for floors or unpourous surfaces, but when the urine has soaked into a mattress, couch, or into your rug and pad, using a cleaner that actually digests all the organic material is of extreme importance.

Not only for your own nose, but for kittys nose as well.

Cats will instinctually urinate or mark on the same spot over and over again as long as there is a tiny bit of cat urine left allowing the problem to become chronic.

Some commercial cleaners conatin enzymes and bacteria. While bacteria may sound scary, these are friendly beneficial bacteria that uses cat urine as their source of food. The bacteria will survive until they have consumed every trace of the cat urine in your rug -leaving absolutely no smell behind.

An unpleasant task can be a lot more easy using the proper cleaners. While they may cost a little bit more they will also do a thorough job that you will not have to repeat every time there is a damp. (When cat urine is not cleaned completely it tends to smell less when the area is dry and much more when there is dampness.
