Depression can have a powerful influence on us when we let it. It can be a strong force that makes our life miserable and hangs over us like a black cloud.
I have heard people talk about how the depression seemed to come down upon them making their lives miserable. Daily life becomes a bigger effort and everything becomes difficult.

1) Let the depression be there
When we are depressed we can make things harder for ourselves by fighting the emotions and thoughts that we are experiencing. The trick here is to try to relax into what is happening as much as possible for us. We may feel absolutely dreadful but fighting the sensations only makes things worse. lets the emotions and thoughts in and let them be there. Don't get involved with the thoughts or act upon them , just let them happen. When you do things will improve for you. You will cope with depression more easily.
2) Be-friend your depression
Imagine your depression as a long lost friend or buddy that's hanging out with you for a while. He may come to visit you often or he may be there all the time. Let him hang around with you. Give him a name if you like and talk to him. Ask him how old he is and what he likes doing. Take him for a walk and have fun with him. You're relationship with him may have been fraught up until this point so try and smooth things out between you and him.
3) Forget the finishing point
When we are faced with an emotional difficulty in our lives we may think allot of the time that we need to get to a certain point of healing and then we will be sorted. This can make dealing with things like depression allot more difficult for us. The thing to remember here is that when we are trying to get to a certain point all the time we are not accepting the now and it is here in this present moment where the healing lies. There's nothing wrong with setting an intention for yourself to heal and to be at peace but you need to focus on the present moment as it is the only time you have and the only time when you can really do anything. When you come back to the present things will become easier for you.
