If you’re a novice designer or perhaps you just don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on preparing a design for brochure printing, have no fear! The Internet is here! Free online tools abound to help you with any brochure designing woes you might have. The best part about the online tools presented here are that they can help you before you have any woes to speak of. Whether you just need a template of if you need some stock photos and fonts to complete your brochure, lovely people on the Internet have provided resources for you.

1. First you’ll need a template. Before you can decide on a template though, you need to decide on what size you want your brochure. Luckily, PrintPlace.com provides at least 6 sizes of brochure templates in 10 styles, so you have over 60 templates to choose from in PDF and Illustrator files. If you have software like Free Hand MX, you can grab templates from The Paper Mill Store.

2. Now you can design your template however you want, while knowing exactly where the cut lines are for your brochure. If you don’t want to do any layout work, however, you can download some layout templates from Stock Layouts. You can also just browse through the templates here to get some ideas. All Graphic Design also has some great articles and brochure ideas for you to peruse.

3. You’ll want to place or replace existing photo boxes with photos showing your product or people enjoying your product. If you don’t have any existing photos, you can use stock photos that represent your product. For instance, if you sell wine, you could download a free photo of people talking and enjoying a glass of wine from Dreamstime or Stockvault.

4. Next you’ll need to insert your text. Be sure that you’re talking directly to the reader so you can draw them in. Using headings and subheadings are another great way to draw a reader into the text. By making your headings and subheadings a different font from the body copy, you’ll pull them in with content and style. To download free fonts, check out 1001 Free Fonts or Abstact Fonts for something really different. Font Garden updates almost daily with a new font to download.

5. Lastly, if you want to punch it up a bit, you can add a background or border around your brochure. You can get free backgrounds and borders from About.com, GDPit and Inspiration Gallery.

Now all you have to do is get your brochure printed. If you need a high volume printer, an online printer like PrintPlace.com can print thousands of brochures at a low cost. Be sure to get a proof before you print, and voila! You’re done!
