Drawing Spiderman

Spiderman is just a great comic book character, like the Hulk(see how I drew him!), it is great to draw, although a little bit more complex than the Hulk with his costumes web design, but that is fairly straight forward and can be learned. Spidermans design much of the time, from what I remember it is that he always had his legs in impossible positions when he was webslinging through New York and that to me was what makes Spiderman a great comic character to draw.

Here I'll go through the usual drawing step by step and there you can see how Spiderman can be drawn through a little planning on your part, as with all drawings they all begin life as rough sketches and so below we have a rough sketch of a figure that will hopefully be our Spiderman, I wanted to capture a bit of the energy of him swinging on his web, so I always try and recommend that you try and make your drawings look real with movement lines and stretched anatomy.

Taking The Draft Sketch And Developing It

Now it is time to take that rough sketch and turn it into something a little bit more like spiderman, we need to define the shape of our figure further and try to relate to the first draft pencil lines but make them better, this is were a large amount of form comes in, we want to fill out the sketch wire frame that we drew in step one to make our drawing look more improved and like there is a progression happening.

We can now see all this and we are getting there quite quick.

Finished Pencil Drawing Of Spiderman

A finished spiderman pencil drawing, the only thing I have left out is the webbing, because I usually leave that for the inking stage.

Cleaning Up The Pencil Drawing

Now we have all of our Spiderman fully drawn,we can go back and clean up a lot of them pencil lines and define and refine the Spiderman character futher, we need to build on that character structure and make it what we like to see for Spiderman, the details of the webbing design on the costume are also finalized here and I think if you get to this stage, it's pretty much a finished Spiderman drawing, unless f course you want to ink your drawing, adding a further layer of depth to your Spiderman.

I'll add the inked spiderman at a later stage, so I can finish the web design on the costume.

Drawing already established characters is the best training you can do when you are starting out drawing, you learn all sorts of stuff from observing other artists renditions of comic book characters.
