How To Eliminate Debt

There are many ways to eliminate credit card debt.  You can get a home equity loan and roll all your unsecured debt into that new loan and get one low monthly payment.  And then if you fail to make your mortgage payment, you could lose your house.  Sounds like a good deal right?  WRONG!

A home equity loan is not a great way to eliminate debt.  You are just extending your loan term and paying the same amount of money when all is said and done.

A debt consolidation loan works the same way.  You don't eliminate or wipe out any debt, you just move it around and make a payment to a different company with a possibly lower monthly payment.  When you consolidate your debts, you do not reduce your total balances, you are still paying off the same amount of debt.

Bankruptcy will help you eliminate your debt and provide massive debt reduction for those who need it.  But many people should not use bankruptcy for debt elimination.  You will end up paying more and not saving much money anyway.  Since the bankruptcy law changes, most people will not qualify for total debt elimination, they will have to pay back most of the debt they owe.  Add to this that you will have ruined credit for 7-10 years and lack of job opportunities and higher loan rates, if you can even get them, and bankruptcy does not seem like such an attractive option anymore.

So that leaves you with debt settlement and debt negotiation.  With this method, you negotiate with your creditors, or you get a debt settlement company to do it for you and you reduce your total balances.  This is how you eliminate your debt.  Once you are able to settle your debts, you will have more money in your pockets and you won't have to eat cheap junk food anymore to save money.  Debt settlement can reduce your balances by up to 40-60% and you can be debt free in 12-36 months.  Compare that to bankruptcy which can take 7-10 years and debt consolidation which can take just as long but still having you pay all of what you owe with no debt reduction.

You can choose to do it yourself debt elimination or you can hire a debt settlement company.  If you hire a company, you will pay about 15% of your debt to the company for their services.  Still, you will come out ahead in the negotiations if you do not have time to do it yourself.

So of all the many ways to eliminate credit card debt, your best bet is with debt settlement and debt negotiation.  There are plenty of resouces available to give you more information about the whole process so you can start eliminating your own massive pile of credit card debt.
