I am one of those people who constantly has big ideas about websites I can start -- and at times I even go as far as launching them.

So, how many successful websites do I run right now? Zero! I'd like to share the top five ways I've failed miserably at running a website -- and how you can do the same.

1) Don't choose a topic that you are passionate about.

Commiting to a topic that you won't care about two weeks from now means you will soon lose interest and stop updating your website.

2) Be an internet loner.

If you're not the type to post in the internet communities related to your topic, you're also the type to miss out on valuable traffic.

3) Don't care about SEO.

No matter how great your articles are, if you want them to be ranked high with search engines, you have to make sure they are search engine optimized. If you're a newbie, there are plenty or SEO resources for beginners online.

4) Don't know what you're talking about.

If you're creating a site about blogging and you don't know what Wordpress is, chances are your site will fail.

5) Ignore the competition.

You should know the competition as well as you know your own site. Not only will you learn from the competition, in some cases, you'll figure out how to top them.

So, if I now have all this knowledge, why don't I use it? I've decided that starting a website just isn't my thing. And, hey...publishing these hubpages is fun so far!
