Writing for Free Grocery Coupons

I think most of us believe that our comments to companies end up floating off into the void generating no more then a generic automated response that goes a little something like "we all appreciate that you e-mailed us but don't care enough to offer you anything more then this generic automated response, let alone free grocery coupons in the mail"

The truth is that many companies take those comment and complaint letters very seriously and they do send out free coupons and coupons for free products in the mail. So seriously in fact that they will happily send out free grocery coupons in the mail as a way to thank their customers for taking the time to give feedback.

I have had much luck with "giving feedback". In a period of just a few months I wrote to over 80 compaines without asking for a single free grocery coupon or coupons for free products. In return I recieved cents-off coupons, free grocery coupons, and even free products in the mail.

How To Find The E-mail Address

Almost every company web page I have come across will have a CONTACT US link usually located at the very bottom of the page in the footer. Follow this link and you will usually be sent either directly to a form requesting your contact information with a box to enter in your comments, or another link to e-mail the company. This is how I send all of my comments to companies and in return, get free grocery coupons in the mail.

How To Get Compaines To Send You Free Grocery Coupons

Praise, comment, complaint, suggestion. These are the 4 types of e-mails you should be writing to companies to provide feedback in hopes that they will send free grocery coupons. Many believe that the only way to encourage a company to send a free grocery coupon for a free product is to send a complaint. This is not true.

The majority of the 80+ e-mails I sent were either praises or suggestions and my mailbox always had free grocery coupons in it for weeks. Honest praises and suggestions!

The reason I did the experiment was just to receive free grocery coupons in the mail, but I always kept in mind honesty with my e-mails. I would think it would be easier to write an e-mail talking about what I truly like about their product then making something up anyways.

I knew that most of these companies would be sending me free grocery coupons in the mail, better to benefit their company by sending honest feedback!

Keeping Track

Did I already write to them? An easily avoidable question. If you are writing to more than just a few companies, track it.. Keep record either on paper or by using a program such as excel. What you keep track of is your preference but here are some ideas of columns to create.

  • Company Name
  • Website Address
  • Product writing about
  • Date E-mailed
  • Comment, Suggestion, Praise, Complaint
  • Date E-mail Response Recieved
  • What was outcome? (coupon, thank you, freebie, replacement, other)
  • Date recieved by mail
  • What was recieved?

Writing The E-Mail

If you are interested in writing to companies please keep in mind the following. To save time you could write a few generic letters and do the "copy and paste" thing many seem to be so fond of. It could go a little something like...

To whom it may concern,

I like your (insert product name here). I think (insert product name here) rocks. Your (insert product name here) really does the job.

Thanks, your name

The most effective approach to getting free grocery coupons though is to write out each email individually. This requires you to think a bit further and personalize it based on the company. What you might say to Glade probably will not be the same thing you would say to Hershey's.

Be honest and tell the company what you really think. The point of companies wanting your feedback is to shape their products in the future. This is not rocket science and they really aren't looking for professional writers. My notes we're short and simple and if I liked the product or didn't, I let them know. How they use this information is up to them.. .

Do not write a book, it's probably a good guess that the company representative reading it may not be so thrilled. Tone down you letter to key points. A paragraph at most is sufficient unless your comment requires further attention and you are hoping for someone to get in touch with you for more details.

For example I told DUREX the condom company that I enjoy their lubricant products but wanted to let them know their PLAY Tingling lubricant made my crotch sting and feel like it was on fire. That was about it..

The response..

Thank you for contacting us regarding your recent experience with ourDurex® Play Tingling Lubricant. SSL Americas is always interested infeedback as it is an important part of our efforts to provide qualityproducts.During shipment and storage, the ingredients used in our Play Tinglingproduct, which provide the tingling sensation, may settle to the bottom ofthe container. As indicated on the packaging, it is important to shake thebottle well before use. Please be assured that SSL Americas always strives to achieve the higheststandards of quality. Please accept our sincerest apology for anyinconvenience you have experienced. A replacement product will be sentseparately in accordance with our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. Please provide the Lot # on the bottom of the bottle. We look forward to keeping you as a valued Durex® consumer.

I e-mailed the Lot # back and corresponded with the rep asking that a different product be sent because I wasn't so excited about trying the Tingling again. The rep sent 2 full size lubricants in different formulas. (this changed the boyfriends mind about how much time I was spending e-mailing companies)

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT???

It may seem obvious but be sure to mention the product name in your message. Many of these companies have many more companies below them. Be specific and name the product as best you can. Including the flavor, scent, etc. Anything that identifies the product.

WHAT IF I'VE NEVER USED THEIR PRODUCT?

If you really want to e-mail a company who's products you've never tried before you can still do this. First, don't fib about it and make up some story. It's not neccessary. Tell them you haven't used it but are considering their product and ask them a question.

MOST IMPORTANTLY....

Do not flat out asks for the company to send you free grocery coupons. Consider this.. Would you be more interested in giving someone a freebie just for asking for it, or giving it to the person who was just taking time out of their day to give honest feedback. Companies are looking for product feedback to generate income, not profit loss.

Thanks for sharing this. I am going to try this. It's funny how before many people would snicker at coupons, but nowadays every penny counts!

I contacted some of the companies in your links after reading your article and I began getting emails the same day and coupons within 2 days. My best response has been for a FREE coupon from Glade for the flameless candle. That coupon is worth $10. Since then I have been getting good coupons in the mail everyday from the companies I wrote. Some of the companies just sent me an emailed thank you response but did not indicate they would send coupons so I was pleasantly surprised when I began getting the coupons. I just wrote the companies like you said and gave HONEST feedback. I even got a better response when I told some companies what I honestly did NOT like about their product. Go figure. Thanks for a fantastic article.

Thanks for the great tips, it is a good reminder that consumer products are a great resource for free grocery coupons, I had a friend who would enter contests on cereal boxes and she would clip out contests and enter them from newspaper coupons too!

The result is that she won cash, trips, toys and she was always able to take her kids to do really fun stuff from the winnings she made from the contests.

I guess not very many people think about getting free grocery coupons in the mail or entering free contests for prizes.

I have never considered the method described here, I would just go and register to get freebies and coupons in the mail which seems a lot easier (but the stuff may not be as good) so thank you. I think the freebie sites that send samples are also good. Here is one example that you can try: http://us.my-freebie.com/free-samples

Watch out for companies online like CoolSavings. Once they have your email address all they do is continually send you things you don't want. They make their money by getting yoru email address free then selling it to other companies and trying to get you to fill out forms to buy things. It's not about getting you coupons at all.
