When you first started your wedding business, you had dreams of it becoming your full time career. But somewhere between your dreams of starting, and today's reality of just a handful of clients, you've tried to figure out how to improve your business.

As a business owner, you can't do the same thing as everyone else. If you do, you'll get the same results - which is usually a handful of clients and enough money just to keep your business open.

If you really want to turn the ordinary into to extraordinary, it's time to put together a dynamite marketing plan. As a small business owner, that doesn't mean you have to spend a lot of money. It just means you have to concentrate on taking action, and doing things both that are economical, and bring in enough leads to turn your business into a profitable venture.

The online world

Brides are turning to the online world for more of their planning. According to the Bridal Association of America, 77 percent of today's brides will use the Internet in some aspect for their planning process.

To make money online, you have to start with a website.

The easiest way to build a site is to find out what other businesses are doing, and duplicate their model. But in many cases this is the fastest way to failure.

If you find a handful of sites you like, and you have your web designer duplicate what you find, you'll get exactly what they're getting. Which in many cases could be nothing. Instead, you have to think from your clients' perspective, and design what they are looking for in a site.

  • What do they type in to Google, Yahoo, or MSN when they are searching for information?
  • What types of services are they looking for?
  • How much money are they willing to spend?
  • What's going to make them take action?

Designing the perfect website means putting up a site, and tweaking it over time to gain more results. It's never a question of putting it up and leaving it alone. Once it's in place, turn to other online marketing strategies to start building traffic, and turning that traffic into quality leads. Use things like:

SEO - Search Engine Optimization

  • Linking with complementary companies
  • Adding content based on keywords and phrases

SEM - Search Engine Marketing

  • Pay per click advertising on sites like Google and Yahoo
  • Buying links to directories
  • Using paid advertising on relevant websites

Email Marketing Campaigns

  • Offering a free newsletter or ezine
  • Creating free informational reports
  • Designing an email drip campaign

WEB 2.0

  • Developing social content
  • Blogging on a regular basis
  • Creating content in different formats (video, audio)

Traditional/Online Campaigns

  • Advertising in magazines and bridal guides, with links to online portfolios
  • Direct mail campaigns with links to free reports

In all cases, to build a strong business means work and dedication. There is no such thing as an overnight success - it may take months or even years. But it can happen quickly IF you dedicate a little bit of time each day to try something new, and reach out to just one new client.

Building a little bit each day will ultimately guarantee your success.
