Getting visitors to your site

So you've created a blog- now what?

People write blogs for all sorts of reasons, but one thing they all have in common is the desire for people to read what they publish. There are many ways to get visitors to your site but here are some tried and true tactics.

1. POST FREQUENTLY: The more posts you write, the greater the chance that someone will read it. I have found that many people who frequent blog sites read the most recent posts first. These articles or blogs are usually listed on the front page of the blog site which makes them very accessible.

2. CREATE A CATCHY TITLE: Lure readers in with a catchy title. Think of the News Anchors advertising for the upcoming news or the titles of articles of magazines on the rack in the grocery store. They always make you want to see what they're going to say. Many people will choose to pass by or view a blog based completely on it's title.

3. PICTURES: There's something to be said about pictures! People seem to love articles that have related pictures or even unrelated unique or cute graphics.

4. READ BLOGS: Another often oversighted way to get more people to stop by and perhaps comment on your blog is by reading their blog! One hand washes another and my experience shows that people will return the favor if they know you've read what they posted. Once they've visited your blog, they're more likely to visit again. Become a part of the blogging community by not only writing, but reading too.

5. VARY TOPICS: People have varied interests. Therefore it's necessary to vary your content and perhaps even writing style or tone of the article if you wish to have many people visit your blog site. Writing about politics or entertainment is fun but how about throwing an article about your pet or even something deep like your goals and dreams.

Please feel free to add your comments with other ideas that have worked for you. I hope my ideas will come in handy.

Happy Blogging!

I read and post on blogs as much as possible. But if there are hundreds of comments to a post, what are the chances anyone is going to click on your link and check you out? Slim, I think.

Thanks for the info. Blogs are a great way to advertise posts but one thing i would like to include is - it's a free place to link to your site however don't just add a random post to your blog. If you're going to respond to a post, it's no big deal to go for the cheap plug but, if you going to reply (for demonstrational purposes) <a href=http://greenday.moguling.com">21st Century Breakdown! Coming 2009</a> And leave - it's not relative to the posts and the admins can very easily remove your post, and for good reason. Try to at least reply with some informational material relative to the blog. Thanks, great information.
