Tips & Advice To Getting Sponsored Skateboarding
It doesn't matter what career you choose in life, the most important thing you can do is to LOVE what you do.
Your heart should be 100% in this. When you just love skateboarding and have fun doing it, you won’t care whether or not you get sponsored, and the funny thing is, that's what's going to get you sponsored.
Having Fun Skateboarding Is What Sponsors Look For.
Of course getting sponsored will be in the back of your mind, but don't push so hard to make it happen. Just go with the flow and if it happens it happens. If it doesn't happen, keep you eyes open, because there's other doors always open.
There's a couple things Sponsors look for when choosing a new team rider:
- They look for style.
"It's not who can kickflip the most stairs, it's all about style." - Gailea Momolu
- They look for originality.
Be yourself, because there's no one in the world like you. Let your personality shine through in your sponsor me video. Never worry about what others are doing, just do your own thing.
- They look at your attitude.
You have to remember that if you do get sponsored you're going to be representing their company/ brand. They're probably looking for someone with a positive attiude and someone who can motivate other riders.
- They look at your image.
Ride their products... Show your support and buy their stuff. Again, you're going to representing the company's image so remember that.
Piece of adivce:
Don't change for anyone. Don't just dress like the other skaters to be a part of the team. Find a team that you can vibe with and go with that instead.
Things You Should Do For Getting Sponsored:
- Market yourself. What I mean by that is you should get out there, show your face, your talent, and get your name passed around.
- Go to all the local skateboard competitions, events and parties.
- Make your presence known within your local skate scence and online.
- Sign up on Myspace.com, Facebook.com, Loopd.com, and others like theBerrics.com
- Sign up on forums with a name to remember
The more exposure the better, and the more people are talking about you (or that insane trick you did the other day) the better.
Upload your videos and skate pictures to these social media sites.
Making a Sponsor-Me Video
- Edit it with only your best tricks and keep it short (about 2 minutes in length).
- Film in a varitety of spots and be
creative.
- Be original with your skating. Do tricks that only you seem to do.
When you're all done with your video post it online and that way you can just send a ink via email to whichever company you want to get sponsored by.
The internet is a HUGE place and you want to get your name out there...
- Network with people. Contact the manager of the team and get to know him/ her. Make new friends everywhere and especially make friends with the guys on the team.
Be friendly and make friends with people everywhere you go. You never know how someone might be able to help you out sometime in the future or how you might be able to help them out.
You can make so many connections just by being friendly and supportive.
- Become the best. Constantly improve yourself and keep pushing your limits (saftely, of course).
"You can get sponsored or you can make excuses, but you can't do both." BB
If you think you deserve to get sponsored than you have to be constantly improving yourself and educate yourself to get better. Make sure you're having fun with it, of course :-)
Play Games of S-K-A-T-E
...with everyone and anyone! It's one of the best ways to learn new tricks.
Film As Often As Possible
Film everytime you're skateboarding so that you're comfortable with being filmed. When you're always filming it relieves the pressure for when you're really trying to land a serious trick.
Remember to be yourself on camera and have fun.
And for the last thing...
Surround Yourself With Skaters Better Than You.
You learn so much more than skating by yourself or skating with someone who doesn't have the same passion for skating as you. Beaware of these people. They're like misquitos who drain you of your energy.

I would say thin and flexible, but that would also mean you'd be going through more shoes... I guess that why you get sponsored right?

One love keep skatin bros!
at the moment i am trying 2 get sponsored by vans=) but the only bad thing is that where i live we dont hav stairs and stof i can use 2 make a video.so all i do is grind, manual and flat ground.ive also beaten all my friends with moves like switch frontside flip 360 flip and stof but i dont no if it will be good
Getting sponsored is no easy task! You have to skate every day, and practice all the time until you're good enough to be sponsored. Let's face it - if you suck at skating, there's a good chance nobody wants you on their team.
Great tips and video on sponsorship. And don't be discouraged from doing what you love, regardless of sponsorship. If you truly have a passion for something, you will find a way to make it happen.
