How To Get The Job

Like everything else in life if you want something you have to prepare for it, focus in on it and obtain it. Same goes for job hunting. To start you must have a resume ready. A resume is a summary of your experiences and abilities in the various positions you have held. There are various styles to choose from. The resume can be in chronological order or functional type. It should be typed and printed on quality paper. Your resume does not need to be bright, flashy or wordy. A basic but complete resume will draw the attention of an employer.

The chronological resume layout gives the prospective employer your history in an organized manner it will list all your experiences in date order. To include an objective showing the career choice and then emphasizing your qualifications.

The functional resume gives attention to your achievements and strengths. You can arrange to highlight your experience but not necessarily in date order.

You will also need a cover letter. A cover letter will be sent or fax to an employer stating why you should be hired and listing your qualifications for the position that is advertised. The letter should be simple and direct. Make sure you know about the company and who to properly address the cover letter and resume to.

Next step is to gather advertisements for employment to begin your employment search. Then submit your cover letter and resume, the employer will then review your resume and set an appointment or interview to meet with you to discuss your qualifications for the job. There are many places to search for job openings. There is the local state employment agency, the classified ads and private agencies that offer employment assistance. You can also utilize the internet to search for employment as well as assistance with your resume writing. There are companies like Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com, craigslist.org. You can also look through church bulletins, and online church sites. If you just graduated your schools’ career services department can assist you in resume writing and obtaining a job.

The next step is to complete an employment application it must be neat. Some of the applications can be simple or complex. You need to bring with you in neat cards all pertinent information you are going to need to complete the application to include your references, so you are not disturbing the receptionist for phone books, pens etc. Make sure you have asked your references their permission before using their names. Some employers also have forms that you must sign for background and credit check. The application most of the time is completed in black ink. Remember even if just picking up the employment application be properly dressed.

The interview, be on time even a little earlier, well groomed and professionally dressed. Do not smoke before your interview or chew gum during an interview.

Get a good nights rest so you are not rushing the next morning and your appearance will show it.
