Getting indexed...

So you've found your niche, you've build your website, added a blog and some really interesting content.

Now you've got to get it promoted so people can read your blog, otherwise you're better off talking to yourself.

The big question?

How do you get indexed...& how do you do so quickly?

Getting your blog or website on the search engines like Google & Yahoo means you get free traffic and free traffic means more sales, readers or subscribers depending on the goal of your blog or website.

Here are some things you can do in order to get indexed quickly.

You can find a full list of do follow bookmarking sites at this great post by Caroline Middlebrook.

Social Bookmarking Sites

I usually start with social bookmarking sites. The big ones like Digg, Del.icio.us and Stumbleupon as well as Propeller and Mixx.

Three important things you can do with social bookmarking sites:

  1. Bookmark your blog index and your most important posts. Don't overdo it or you'll run the risk of being identified as a spammer. This could lead to your account getting banned and you most definitely don't want that.
  2. Locate niche bookmarking sites and submit your links there. Relevance is the key here as search engines, Google in particular rewards sites based on relevant backlinks and pages linking to your site. Some examples of niche bookmarking sites are Voteitfly.com for travelling related blogs & Internet Search Engine Database for blogs related to internet marketing, search engine marketing & SEO. You can locate niche bookmarking sites by doing a search on Google for "industry + social bookmarking".
  3. Use Do Follow Social Bookmarking sites. See the list of sites on the right and the benefits of using do follow social bookmarking sites are explained below.

Leave Comments on Do Follow Blogs

First we need to understand two things - no follow and do follow.

No follow is a tag that is assigned to outgoing links that tell the search engine spiders not to influence the target website's ranking in the SERPS. Google does not index the sites tagged with the no follow attribute so your blog may not get indexed.

This is why it would greatly benefit you if you use do follow social networks as well as comment on do follow blogs.

Do follow is the opposite of no follow - the search engines follow the link and indexes the content and will count a vote towards increasing your search engine rankings.

How do you find these do follow blogs?

Comment Kahuna is a cool software that you can use to find blogs related to your topic. Its a free software that locates blogs and identifies the do follow ones for you. All you have to do is visit the blog within the software's interface and post a comment.

Do follow proper comment etiquette when posting comments on other people's blogs or it might backfire on you.

Commenting on do follow blogs is another great way to get indexed quickly.

Pinging

Some blogs are set up to automatically ping blog engines but if you like you can do it manually by going to Pingomatic.com and adding your blog and Rss feed url.

Pinging is a way of notifying blog engines that your blog has been updated. They would usually come crawl your blog so that they could update their indexes. The bigger search engines like Google usually hang around the blog engines because their content is updated very regularly and would in turn crawl your blog if its in their index.

Pinging your blog is another great way to get indexed quickly although I've heard that its effectiveness is being questioned.

Thanks so much for the great links, I have been reading a lot about the do follow movement, and this list really helps out a lot. How do you ensure that your well thought out comments don't end up being killed by Akismet or labeled as spammy? I always leave my name rather than a key word. Any thoughts?

@Alecia

Julia from FastBlogFinder (Comment Kahuna alternative) has a great post that you should read about blog commenting that should answer your questions. You can find the post at http://www.fastblogfinder.com/can-dofollow-blogs-h

I found that joining forums helps alot as they always use dofollow and get spidered alot.

Great article.

Janet thanks for the input. I've used forums also and had great results getting indexed because of the spider activity in busy forums. Another great way to get your blog indexed quickly.

Anyone knows why submitting too often in some Web SEO is not allowed?

I am using the Comment Kahuna for a few times on my affiliated wordpress sites. But I found that my comments were sent straight to akisment. Anyone has similar experience?

Good post. It also true that Fast Blog Finder is a good software that searches dofollow blogs based on the keyword. I think bloggers should get it.

This was pretty cool. I havn't been using Socialbookmarks just yet, but my strategy has been slightly redifned thanks to this article...and also your blog...which is really freakin' awesome.

I had to add your blog to my list of "greatest blogs". And I will be sending some traffic love your way with information you helped me understand a little better.

Hey JB, I see you've been reading my articles. I'm flattered, and thanks for adding my blog to your list. I'm interested in seeing the rest of your list, though. No big deal if you post the link here.

Thanks again for your comments.

The info here is surely great. I have just discovered Kahuna which I think should be a good resource to get like minded blogs. Google hardly likes anything irrelevant to a site and I have been running around trying to locate relevant content blogs but to little avail. thanks for this one mate.
