How To Get Your Kids On The Road To Fitness.
49Now, more than ever parents are becoming more worried about the health and fitness of their kids. This is no surprise given the increase in childhood obesity today. There is also an increase in diseases such as diabetes in kids. The onset of the internet, and especially computer games have added to the lack of physical activity in children. Parents also feel schools have placed less importance on physical education than in the past, contributing even more to the problem. To combat this here are a few ideas parents can use to get their kids back on the road to health and fitness.
Probably the most crucial thing to remember with kids, is just that, they are kids and to make whatever routine or program fun. Using shame or guilt to trick overweight kids to become more physically active is in all likelihood going to have the reverse effect, and probably reduce confidence levels of an already insecure child to rock bottom. In fact kids don't even need to realize that they are being encouraged to exercise, and some activities and routines can be slipped into their lives quite naturally and without them even noticing.
One of these ways is walking. If you don't live too far from school, take a walk or a bicycle. Encourage walking to other places like shops, or libraries. If you love animals buy a dog. This might not be for everyone but its a great excuse to take a walk daily, and making it less boring and more fun. If you can walk instead of take the car, do it.
Another way is to plan activities for the weekend, with the whole family. Roller blading, cycling, hiking, ice skating or swimming are only a few super fun ways to get your kids moving. A very good idea is to bring their friends along.Once kids get involved in anything with their friends, and they enjoy it, creating a routine , they will be more likely to stick to it and encourage each other. It's a hell of a lot better than hanging out at the mall! Getting the family involved in activities together is also an encouragement to the kids, and great to spend quality time together, not to mention being healthy for everyone concerned.
Over time you will realize how much fun and beneficial it can be to transform your kids from video game playing couch potatoes into fit, lean and healthy individuals. Your kids, too will realize that this exercise thing is not all bad and make it a part of their daily lifestyles. I encourage parents to get involved and make a major difference in their kid's lives.
