How To Get A Record Deal!

http://www.donjuanbeatz.com

First and for most, thanks for joining the group! I plan to discuss any and everything possible related to music here. In this post, I want to give some insight on the struggle for a record deal and why MOST artists can't get one. I just want to give back and teach you some things I've learned so that you you won't have to go through some of the setbacks that I had to.

Just in case you're wondering, I'm not signed or anything, but I'm not an artist either. If I were, I would be near the top of every label's priority list! Its just that, contrary to popular belief, the producer market is a lot more competetive nowadays than the market for artists.

Ok, down to business. Here, I will tell you about the most unused tricks in getting into the industry in a three step process. The only thing you will need outside of your brain is an industry contact list, which comes free with any purchase of any of my beats at:

Step 1: THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX! Turn on your radio. Outside of Lil Wayne, Drake, Kanye, Jay-Z, The Dream (most big-time artists), you don't hear any other styles. Just like producers, artists have to become oracles and know where music is going. I'm not saying you should GO HAM with OFF THE WALL STUFF (it "may" work, lol), but develop a style that's unique. A style like NO OTHER! Trust me, this is GUARANTEED to work. At least enough to get your foot in the door of radio stations. This is what you do: Take a rap, or melody from the 90s and sing/rap it until you find yourself singing/rapping a more recent song with sorta the same flow, and then after you start singing/rapping the current song, try and freestyle while at the same time changing the flow. It work for mr and I'm sure it would work for you. This is a masterful way to make some futuristic music! Now, foreal. I want you to follow me. Go lay down and stare at the ceiling and remenisce about life. If you're a real artist, I promise you (unless you're having a horrible day), you will come up with something straight off the dome in no more than 5 minutes. Something you never thought you could write, and so orignial until its like,"WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?!?"

Step 2: Find A GREAT PRODUCER.. : ). No explanations...

Step 3: MARKET YOURSELF. So, you're probably making songs day after day and listening to them nonstop. Everyone loves them, but when its only your friends (students) hearing them, it means nothing when it comes to getting a record deal. Think about it. How could you ever possibly get a record deal when those who matter, haven't even heard your music? Ok, I know a couple of people get lucky, lol. But it doesn't happen everyday is what I'm saying. If you want to make it, you have to do whatever MOST artists aren't, and that's market yourself. I'll tell you exactly what I mean by this. In other words, force your music into the public. Even if that means blastin' ya music in Sonc's parking lot. Let it be heard by everyone. A good strategy is to start local instead of trying to jump straight to the big dawgs. Like you're doing now, make sure your friends hear your music, your friends' friends, and so on by giving out free copies of your music. This part is actually optional (skip it if you want, separated by "-----"): ----If you really want some attention, start an affiliate group and have people shop your tracks for you. Although this MAY cost a lil grip(only for CDs), its worth it. Make about 100 CDs (time consuming, I know, but I'd rather spend $50 and make 100 CDs myself than spend $500 for a company to make them for me). Have them sell them for around $3-$5 each and you give them like $2-$3 of each Cd they sell. This is very important: You want to try to sell the Cds to people who will most likely tell someone about it if they like it (i.e. someone who likes your style of music). So for my Hip/Hop grinders out there, GAS STATIONS! (lol) and CLUBS!!! Those are your best bets. And if someone says,"Well I really dont want to pay $5 for it", your job isn't to make money, its to market yourself. So just drop the price, I know it may not seems fair, but it actually follows the laws of economics. You're giving them a product for the price they possibly value it. If anything, it might not be fair to you, but just go ahead and do it because like I said, your goal is to market yourself. Even if you have to give it to them free, just do it. Now for my R&B artists, of course the clubs are a good place to give CDs, but it is said that the mall is a GREAT place to market. Maybe leave some Cds on the food court tables or something. But all in all, whether you are a hip/hop, pop, or R&b artist, you want to at least get 100 CDs out of your hand within a week's time (that's actually a LOT of time to shop 100 CDs).---------

Market yourself through the computer. EVERYONE'S tired of find themselves lost in a humungous group of people doing the same things they are trying to go the same places. SO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT! Here's where you'll really benefit. Post Youtube videos. Enough said... Post videos! And when you do, here's a trick that almost NOONE knows about! Go to tubemogul.com to upload your videos. You can post your videos to up to like 18 sites at ONE TIME! I guarantee you this will put you in the first two pages of Google within 24 hours! IT WORKS! Trust Me. If you subscribe to my mailing list (coming soon), I'll tell you the BEST, most FORBIDDEN secrets to marketing yourself as an artist in more detail...

Step 4: SOUNDING DIFFERENT (and of course "good") + A GREAT BEAT + GETTING HEARD = RECORD DEAL
So go do the math and set out to get what you want. YOU CAN DO IT. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! All of this can be done in less than 2 months if done right.
