How to Own your Internet Space
56Social Marketing and Your Bottom Line
My husband asked me a question. I wonder what your answer might have been. I told him I'd write down my answer so he could "chew it over".
So what was his question?
How is social marketing going to increase the bottom line?
So here's my answer!
If you are a Network Marketer and you network in the way most uplines teach, (the way that makes my stomach feel sick,) then you market to anyone and everyone inside and outside your social network. Usually by launching onto them your great products and opportunity, whether they like it or not.
Or if you're more savvy, you attract them to you by asking questions, finding their disatisfactions with time, money, or job and by skilful questioning and listening, attract them to you. Certainly a much better way but definitely not the best way.
It's no wonder that these methods have turned people away from this industry and in many cases made them feel utter failures. And it's just too bad when in many cases their passion for their products or service was ignited simply because they were great products that had really made a difference in some area of their lives. Many people would never have been lured by Network Marketing any other way! They genuinely want to share their passion but finally have walked away disullusioned and disappointed.
So what IS the Best way?
It's simply this.
Someone somewhere is looking for what you've got to offer!
Isn't this what marketing is? My dictionary tells me that marketing is the operation of supply and demand.
Consumers Somewhere are Desiring or Demanding Something That I Know How to Supply.
So the Key is to Find Ways of Getting Us Together.
Not to hound people who have no demand for what we have to offer. And not to establish relationships, ask questions, take tons of time being super friendly with the goal of eventually making them customers or members of your team. Ugh..
So the Key is to Start Marketing.
Hey, but just look at what it costs to pay for ads. Tons of places will take what money you have and market for you. And even then, this marketing isn't guaranteed to change your bottom line! And what if you don’t have tons of money to spend on this?
Then Social Marketing is The Key.
Do You Want some Powerful "How To's?"
I have just finished watching three short videos by John Reese of Traffic Secrets. Free videos.
He gave some clear answers to the question: "How is social marketing going to increase the bottom line?"
I am not affiliated with him in any way. Just sharing powerful information that you can benefit from too. I will give the link to his videos below.
So here are my notes which I have organised into:
Four powerful pointers on
“How To Grow and Own Your Space on the Internet.” (and definitely increase your bottom line.)
Point No.1 Generate a large number of web pages.
No need to panic here. Keep reading :)
What do the top websites in the world all have one thing in common.? A large number of web pages.
The site with more pages leaves more "footprints" for people to stumble across so they get more traffic.
Every page you put out there is another opportunity for people all over the world to discover your business.
You can leave "footprints" on blogs, squidoos, hubs, facebook,Twitter, Dig, heaps of places free.
So if you’re really serious about business, then get pages out there. Keep reading to find out why you don't need to be overwhelmed.
Point No.2 Generate a lot of traffic to your web pages.
Isn't that the aim of all social marketing? Any marketing! Generating traffic is what people pay lots of money to achieve. But follow these pointers and you'll do it without spending money.
To generate traffic you need to start a “content factory.” A factory is where a great quantity of something is produced regularly.
The search engines like good fresh content.
Do you think you can’t do this?
Keep reading to discover How To do this. Anyone can do this and baby steps is the key. Consistent, daily effort will produce a web in time that will surprise you.
Point No. 3 How to Grow Your Content Factory.
Think of the benefits that your products give. Here's a quick example. What if you owned a shoe store? What kind of articles could you write to promote your store?
You could have good articles on running. The benefits of good running shoes.
How to have happy feet…Maybe interview a podiatrist who can highlight problems when shoe choice is not carefully made. Let your imagination run.
Then apply this idea to your products or services.
Point No.4 How to Enlist Others to Help Your Content Grow.
You don’t have to create all this content yourself. Even if you love to write and are a good writer. You need to budget your time and budget towards hiring people to write content for you.
You can only do so much for yourself and there are people who will write good content that costs little. (e.g. guru.com ODesk.com)
Point No.5 How to Manage Your “Content Factory?”
Most don't know how to manage this process.
He suggests that you have to approach creating content on the internet like a TV producer.
You don’t finish a show today and then start thinking about what you’ll do on the show tomorrow.
Similarly, since I"m "Home 'n Biz Blend" I have to balance home, home educating our son, running a business, and many other things.
Like the TV producer, and I as a Mum, homemaker and business owner, we need to plan and organise this "content factory" a week or months in advance.
Baby steps here too. Keep plodding in this direction and one day you'll look back and realise how far you've come.
There Are Four Departments in Your “Content Factory.”
The first - The Research Department.
Create a swipe file of your competitors published content. All the blog posts, special report posts, anything. Constantly collect anything that anyone in your market is creating.
The second – The Idea Development Department.
Look at what’s in your research dept and think how you can create something along those lines but better!
e.g.. if you want to make a blog post, and you want to get a lot of links to your post, go and find similar blog posts that have gotten a lot of links in your market. Figure out why and do something similar.
When you go to your research dept and pull out other ideas that would make for some good content, you move those to the idea development stage, develop the idea of how you’re going to create content for it, or how you’re going to pay someone to do it. Then it gets moved into the next department.
The third – The Content Creation Department.
This is where you write an article, record an interview, write a special report, prepare a YouTube video or create whatever type of content you wish.
The fourth – The Schedule Department.
He recommends that you create a bunch of content in advance. Even weeks and months in advance and then schedule to release it over time.
Because successful websites like blogs e.g. have new content created every day. If you try to do this you as the creator would be tied to your blog – you’d have no time freedom. So the key to being successful is to schedule it, and do it in advance.
Do 3 months worth – or pay people to do 3 months worth then you’ll have some time freedom but still have new content being published.
So How is social marketing going to increase the bottom line?
Valuable content published free of charge to you and to the person looking for information, is going to help Consumers who are Desiring or Demanding Something That I Know How to Supply, get in touch with me. It'll put us together. No more headhunting! Just supplying info that helps. What a difference from the old ways. mmmmmmmm.
Did I answer my husband's question? He's still chewing! But that's o.k. because one mouthful at a time is the key to "getting this!"
In my next hub I’ll review several powerful tips on “How To” get a single piece of content you’ve created appear in many different ways all over the internet when you post it just once.
Here is the url for the videos by John Reese. You'll appreciate watching these if you have time. And even if you have time, I have done the hard work of thinking through and organising his ideas for you. I'd love to hear from you if this helps.
