Tired of that tiny dog peeing all over?

HOUSE BREAKING THE LITTLE DOG: A Step By Step Guide

If you follow these tips, and put in a constant effort- within 2 weeks- your pup should be pee-pee free in your home!

The biggest issue with a dog that is having trouble becoming potty trained is usually their food. If you are feeding commercial dry, you are probably overfeeding. They shouldn't be free fed- especially as puppies who haven't learned control yet. And don't feed the amount the food bag tells u to feed- its WAY too much- our Chihuahua eats about a 1/4 a cup once a day- and she is full grown @ 4.8 lbs- and she's even fat lol but puppies need to eat twice a day- once in the am and once in the pm and assuming they are normal size chi- pups, then they should probably eat about 3/4 a cup a day 1/2 in am 1/2 in pm. everyone's schedule varies- but I have 2 babies- so its ideal to feed my dog in the am before they rise and about 8pm every night-

then the plan- u have to decide where u ALWAYS want them to go- our dog ONLY goes outside and that's just preference- i have kids crawling around and if they are just tearing the pads up- they are currently clueless on what they are for! So, you might as well start all over- haven't accomplished anything anyway, and opt for outside only training.

If they are pottying in their kennel- they CANNOT help it- MOST dogs will REFUSE to potty where they lay- so probably due to over feeding- easy to solve

ok so here's the typical day on the OUTSIDE plan:

Wake up let dog out IMMEDIATELY if they look at u like "what the hell?" don't worry- mine did too- give them a minute, if they don't potty pick them up, and walk somewhere- down the street a little- to the end of the yard wherever and put them down again they will look at u like u have lost it- just ignore them- start slowly walking back to your house- the cold air combined with the walking and first thing in the morning is a sure fire way to make them potty- as soon as they do, make a HUGE deal about it- saying good potty over and over and lots of pets and praises and baby voices kisses- whatever gets them so excited they wiggle everywhere, rest assured your neighbors might peek out their window- this means u are doing it right!! Whatever u do, make sure u tell them WHAT they did: good POTTY not good girl let them know what action u are praising them for and ALWAYS say the exact same thing dogs are very cause and effect and usually pick up pretty quickly.

Then take them in, feed them the 1/2 of the 3/4 and let them drink freely- after they finish eating and drinking- nature usually calls within 5-10 minutes- take them out after they eat and wait for it- if they stand there, do the walking technique. Praise like crazy again.

Then their bladders need to be emptied, I'd say take them out every 30 minutes, at first until they learn some control- then u can extend time as they progress- mines full grown and goes out every few hours and feeding her properly makes it timeable.

continue potty breaks all day- fed dinner- take out and wait/walk. praise.

Now for the accidents- when u SEE them- yell immediately I use "AT AT!" in a strong scare voice, because it makes them stop- pick them up quickly and take them out- let them finish- may take a minute- u just scared the poop back in lol!

if u don't see it and find it later- it CANNOT go unpunished- if it does, like I said before they are cause and effect- and will just learn to hide where they potty. As soon as u find it, do NOT say anything- it's important not to call a dog to u that's getting in trouble- go find them - pick them up and carry them, with a paper towel if its poop- pick it up, put it under their noses, not in their nose, they know damn well what it is, and say in a harsh tone, well, say whatever u want- "no potty!" "naughty dog!", whatever, just make sure u ALWAYS say the same thing- then take them outside set them down and in a forgiving- not nice- but forgiving tone, say THIS is where u potty- don't pet or coo- just forgive

At night, put them in a small crate, if you do not have a crate or can't bare them crying if they aren't used to being crated, and they sleep in your bed, teether them to you or the bed, so that they cannot get off in the middle of the night- rest assured they don't want to pee on your bed, unless you have upset them, and they are revengeful!

As for the damage already done- cleaning the spots with vinegar water is the ONLY thing that will take the smell completely out- if they can still smell it, they will still pee there. Even if u can't smell it, they can.

Good luck and anyone with dog training questions or issues- feel free to leave a comment, and I will get back to you ASAP!

*Next dog behavior problem I will cover, is something for the BIG DOGS! Is your best friend DRAGGING you behind him everytime he's on a leash? Feel out of control?? Stay tuned!

Good Morning~!! Just sending a big THANK YOU~!!! for taking precious time out of your day to write this article. As you mentioned, many dogs are given up due to us owners not knowing how to housebreak the pup. We have a lovely, sweetheart of a Pekingese which took me 9 mos to housebreak!I tried everything, until one day Fiona surprised us all, and followed her littlebrother Kasey outdoors to go potty. with no help from us! its such a relief...albeit, we would have not given her up in any case. Thanks again...and I do hope everyone appreciates yourgood intentions, and wonderful article.Sincerely,Elisa

I have a 1.3lb shorkie

I have been told her bladder is too small to hold it for more than 2 hrs

Can she be trained to hold and go outside instead of using pads or litter?
