House training a puppy or a dog (let's call them "Dog" for purposes of this article) can be frustrating, but how to house train Dog is a lot easier than you think. Whether you have a puppy or an adult dog, how to house train Dog boils down to four main indicators. The scenario you want is for Dog to go to the bathroom outside and to ask you if he/she can go outside, right?

The obvious question, however, is how do we get to that end goal? This is where the four indicators factor in. To house train a dog, take Dog outside immediately after any of the following four activities: (1) eating; (2) sleeping; (3) drinking water; and (4) playing. If you do this consistently, you will have a house-trained puppy or dog in two to three weeks.

So, whenever Dog eats, take him/her outside. Likewise, whenever Dog wakes up from a nap, take him/her outside. Whenever you run Dog around the house, take him/her outside. You get the picture.

I used these guidelines with my yellow Labrador, and he was standing by the door asking to go to the bathroom outside by week 2. You can achieve the same results. How to house train Dog is as simple as the formula I laid out above. It simply requires patience and discipline.
