How To House Train Your Puppy
49Get A Crate
You will need to get a crate if you want to easily housetrain your pet. This is not cruel. Dogs have a natural den instinct so that they enjoy being in their crate. Start to put your puppy in a crate as soon as you get him. This is important because it lets him know he has a place to call home. Put a comfortable bed in there so he will want to go there. Also, put a treat or a toy to further encourage him into the crate.
The point is to get him so used to the crate to make housebreaking easier. As soon as I got my puppy, I put him in his crate. He immediately took to it because new puppies are a bit frightened of their new surroundings. The crate give him a safe place to be.
When he likes his crate, he will not pee or poop in his crate. He likes it too much, and would hate to mess it up. This makes housetraining so much easier!

I Got A Crate Now What?
I'm happy you've decided to get a crate! All you have to do now is keep track of eating schedule and time. You let the puppy out of the crate and immediately go outside. It doesn't matter if he pees yet. Just take him out for a few minutes to play with him. Then, feed him and play with him. After 20 minutes or so take him back out for another chance to do his business. Next, put him back in his crate for a while. He will need to pee every 4 hours or so. This actually makes the schedule pretty easy. If you stick to this simple routine you will have a houstrained puppy. My puppy had one accident in the house. Why? Because I didn't take her out right after letting her out of her crate. I made sure I fixed that quickly, and she had no accidents after 24 hours.
