If you read my previous hub " The Amazing Health Benefits of The Salba Seed " you already know the health benefits of the salba seed. Now the next step is to incorporate it into your diet! Since the seed is tasteless this can be done quite easily. Salba can be added to virtually every food. In this article I'm going to go over the most popular ways to incorporate the salba seed into your diet.

The most popular way to eat salba seed is to mix it with yogurt. Many people eat yogurt with their breakfast. Simply add one tablespoon of the seeds to your yogurt and mix. You will barely notice that they are there.

Salba can easily be added to rice as well. This probably the second most popular way to consume the seed because it is hardly noticable in rice. I personally buy the 78 cent cheddar rice packets from Walmart and mix the seeds with them after i cook the rice.

Another way to incorporate salba is in brownies. I know this sounds gross but read on. You know how you add eggs to brownies to thicken up the brownie batter. Well, Salba seeds gel up when contacted with a liquid like substance. This can be used in place of eggs because the seeds will completely dissolve and turn into gel actually turning brownies into a super healthy food!

Some other ideas you might consider is adding Salba to pasta, baked potatoes, fruit dishes, steamed vegetables, soups, cakes, pudding, jello, ice cream, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, wraps, cereal, oatmeal, grits, gravy, trail mix, pancakes, salads, protein shakes, hashbrowns, beans, and sub sandwiches.

I enjoyed reading how you are using chia in your diet. Salba brand was my introduction to these great seeds. I will have to try some of your suggested ways of incorporating chia into the diet. My main use now is to grind it into flour and use it to make home made bread. I especially like the brownie idea.

When I mentioned Salba to my MD he said he had heard kids were getting high on it. Is there anything kids are not getting high on?

it's not Salba that kids are getting high on ... that's salvia, a natural type of sage.

Hi, I just purchased some Salba seed after reading as much as I could on it. I'm a typeII. Can you tell me is there any benefit between the seed vs ground? According to the published paper there was no difference in the benefits realized for post-prandial glucose levels... they offered the same results, but it was good...

Does Salba lose any of its nutritional value when it is cooked?
