How To Install Tile
57Maybe you're like me. Do you want to know how to install tile so that you can do it yourself and have a great floor in you home?
It's really not that hard to do.
Installing ceramic tile flooring is actually a pretty easy process and if you want to do well, all you have to do is pay attention to the details.
How To Install Tile in Four Steps
Floor preperation is the one thing that most beginning tile setters overlook. If you want your flooring job to be successful, you've got to prepare your subfloor correctly. It's actually very easy. Remove any existing flooring you have, and clean the floor. Ideally, you want to lay ceramic tile over concrete but if you have an ugly plywood subfloor you can use a backer board.
Now it's time to layout your floor. This is the process of deciding where you want your tiles to go. Do you want them to be diagonal or square with the walls? Where do you want your cut tiles to be? Snap chalk lines to follow when you're laying the tiles.
When you're mixing thinset (adhesive) you have to follow the directions on the bag exactly. Mix it until it's about the same consistency as peanut butter. Don't spread out more than you can reach at a time.
Let the tiles settle and the thinset dry for a day before grouting. Use a rubber grout float and make sure you're constantly wiping the extra grout off of the tiles because if it dries out it's really hard to get off.
