How To Keep Your Blog Current
56Whether you are blogging for money or blogging for personal reasons the most important issue for a successful blog is keeping it current. This is sometimes difficult, but with a few tips, you could find it easier then ever before.
Blog Topic
The truth of the matter is that the blog topic is the one of the most important part of keeping a blog current. That may seem odd, but the truth is that you have to have the right blog topic in order to keep it going. To choose your blog topic consider the following:
- Choose a topic you have a passion for. If it is a topic you only like a little bit or a topic you don't really like at all, you will quickly get bored or frustrated with it and have a hard time keeping it updated.
- Choose a topic that you already know a lot about. It is a bad idea to choose a topic that you need to do a lot of research for, this will get time consuming and will delay your posts.
- Your blog should be about a specific topic, but it should have at least 10-20 sub-categories, sub-topics, or related items.
Choosing a topic for a blog can be hard work, but once you have the perfect topic it will be a lot easier to update it a lot.
3 Or More
Most bloggers who have really successful blogs say that you should update your blog at least three times a week. This should be your goal. The length of the posts is going to be up to your topic and your preference. But no matter what, aim for three posts a week (or more if you can pull it off).
Set Goals and Schedules
You should set goals and schedules to help you keep your blog current. You can choose the number of posts you would like each week and set a schedule to meet those goals. You can choose days that it will be easiest for you to update your blog. This can make it easier to get it done and to stick to your goals.
Ideas
Keep your ideas written down somewhere safe. This will let you build on the ideas that you have and will let you have an idea to blog about when you finally sit down to get the job done. This works well even with a personal blog because you can jot down things that have happened or ideas that you have for the blog when you aren't actually blogging. These ideas can make posts a lot faster.
Blog Ahead
Whenever you have a little extra time, it is a good idea to blog ahead. You can either have them published automatically at a later date, or store up your extras for a time when you are too busy to post. You just have to log on and click the publishing button making it fast and easy to update. It is a good idea to try and build up a huge back log of posts for the times when you are too busy, sick, or having a hard time writing anymore.
