How To Keep Your Dog When You Lose Your House
54In today's uncertain world where stock markets are near historic lows, home values are lower than ever, solid traditional companies are going under and the average American is loosing their home. Many dog lovers find that they have to figure out how to save themselves and their dogs when their lives are turned upside down.
The first thing to do is to is to find support and gather your assets. Contact all of your friends and family and ask them if they can make room for you and your dog for a short period of time.
You can contact local shelters for both human and dogs to see if they can take you and your dog in for a short time. Many dog kennels will offer you reduced rates to board your dog until you get back on your feet.
There are even some private individuals who will open their home and heart and take you and your dog in for a short period of time. The best place to start is at your local church, woman's group or local civic group such as the Rotary Club.
The most important thing to do is to keep calm, hug your dog and never be afraid to ask for help. Americans have big hearts and love to help each other-even in tough times.

Although I am not in danger of losing my house at this point, the tough economic times have forced me to give up a few things. For example, in the past, I bought my dog Barney's pet food from our vet, but to save money, I am now buying the grocery store brand. I do not buy as many toys and treats as I used to. I am concerned that I am compromising his health by saving money on the food, but at this point, I have to cut costs. It is really sad that many people have to give up their pets and I think these are some helpful tips. Hopefully people can find the help and support they need if this happens to them--I hope I am never faced with this dilemna.
