We’ve all done it, looked in the mirror and seen all those little insignificant marks. You know the ones I’m talking about, the dark circles under your eyes, the dimples that aren’t so cute in 'not so nice' places!

The ones that make you squeeze you size twelve into a size eight so you can try to feel better about going to Thanksgiving dinner where your Ex and his new twenty something “hit” (whose perfect in every way) will most definitely be there in her tiny show everything dress.

You know Aunt Patricia will be telling everyone you look like you gained weight and your Ex will comment on “if you really need two helpings of potatoes on your plate”! Ugh!

Don’t you just wish you could skip it all together and go on vacation somewhere, preferably a beach where you can drink ‘myties’ and dream of the “Rock” all day long!

Yeah…I been there too.

But alas we must endure yet another holiday feast with all the trimmings including your annoying ex and his new girlfriend, your mom’s endless comments on how you’re not getting any younger and when will you be dating again!

No matter what it’s like at your holiday gathering this year, you don’t have to take it anymore! Here are some tips for learning to love the skin your in and hopefully help you step back and look at the big picture and realize the total person you really are, and how much you have to offer the rest of the world.

1) Evaluate your positive points: Realize that there are more good things about you than there is bad.

For example, at work you most definitely can organize and handle the incoming new clients better than anyone one else does in fact you were employee of the month twice!

Start by looking at you in a full length mirror fully dressed. Then start by announcing out loud the parts of your body that you really like. I have luxurious soft hair etc. Then work your way down to your toes. If you do this every day for a month you will start to have an amazing turn around in your self image!

2) Focus on what your body can do: Never focus on the things your body can’t achieve, but focus on what it can do.

How many times did we all stand in a dressing room as a teenager and critique our body from every angle? How many times as an adult do you wish for the elusive "perfect body"? Because of this we are constantly trying to ‘fit’ into something we are not!

Here’s a news flash: You never will, until you change how you view yourself! So next time you try to hide your body and squeeze into that smaller size, Stop it! Why put yourself through all the grief and end up hating yourself and feeling less than worthy in your perfect size twelve!

3) Never, ever turn to drastic measures: Whenever you turn on the television these days threes a Victoria’s secret model looking like she could use a few cheeseburgers from McDonalds! We're constantly being confronted with a world where the female images are getting smaller and smaller and unhealthy levels. Don’t fall for this trap and start using unhealthy eating or exercise routines to conform!

According to the National Eating Disorders Association, 80 percent of women are unhappy with their appearance. If you've tried to lose weight to improve your appearance, you're not alone. Approximately 45 percent of women are dieting on any given day.

Research has been done that shows when you focus your attention on another part of your body, you will begin to feel more confident and beautiful about your own self image.

4) Keep a positive image of yourself at all times: When you create a positive self image, and start to appreciate the body you were given, a woman develops a new perception of herself and of her size and shape. She will learn to feel comfortable “in then skin she’s in” and proud about her body.

With a negative body image, a woman has a distorted perception of her shape and size, compares her body to others, and feels shame, awkwardness, and anxiety about her body. A woman's dissatisfaction with her body affects how she thinks and feels about her. A poor body image can lead to emotional distress, low self-esteem, dieting, anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.

~So this Holiday season, remember to live your life to the fullest and enjoy what YOU bring to the table. When you have a positive image of yourself it’s contagious and everyone will feel it! Now go lift your spirits, believe in your potential, you can do the impossible. You surely can.~

In the words of Norman Vincent Peale “Either you master life or life masters you. It’s just that simple.”
