How do you lower cholesterol? The bad cholesterol levels in the more well-to-do countries are rising at an alarming rate. We must do something to lower our cholesterol levels because high cholesterol levels are going to give us problems that could kill us. But what exactly is cholesterol? Some cholesterol is produced by the liver and is actually vital for the body, but the cholesterol that is entering your body through the saturated fats in our foods is not good for you at all. This is the stuff that can kill you. So we have the two different types of cholesterol one that is produced by our livers and which is critical to your body at the cellular level and the other which is introduced your body through what you're eating and can put you into a critical condition.

So what can we do to stop this high cholesterol levels in our body? Is there good cholesterol that we can take into our bodies without fear? Hopefully you will find that these questions are answered here.

How to lower your cholesterol level

So basically cholesterol comes in two different forms there is the LDL (low density lipoprotein) which is the bad stuff and there is HDL (high density lipoprotein) this is the good stuff. Now if a blood test that is taken from your body and analyzed comes back with the reading of below 130 mg per deciliter of LDL cholesterol been this is regarded as being good for you. In actual fact the HDL works with the body to get rid of the LDL but there are other aspects to HDL which are fascinating. Oh and a reading of over 40 mg per deciliter in your blood of HDL is considered to be very good. There is an overall reading for cholesterol levels which your body should be underneath that is around 200 mg per deciliter.

So, how are you going to lower the LDL, the cholesterol which is bad for you. While we have already seen that if we consume the HDL then it will lower your LDL. First of all let me tell you about the risk factors that you have if you are consuming too much LDL. The biggest risk factors to your health are having a stroke or having a heart attack. This is because the excess cholesterol starts building up in the walls of your arteries and impedes the flow of blood. Over time this builds up until your artery walls start to thicken and narrow. This then becomes so bad that the blood flow stops altogether, by that stage my friend you're in big trouble.

You can of course take drugs that are prescribed from your physician. But though they do lower the overall cholesterol level, like a lot of pharmaceuticals, there are some serious complications that are associated with these types of drugs. The only way to healthily lower your cholesterol levels is by doing it through diet and exercise. You must eat a low-fat, low cholesterol diet. This is low cholesterol in the LDL sense. And exercise, while exercise is good for you in every aspect of your life. Just follow those two things good nutrition and good exercise and you should live a long healthy life.
