When I started to build my first web site about three years ago, some friends from my church asked me why I would want to do such a thing. I told them it was for the money. They did not understand. They asked me how to make money with a web site. I tried to explain the concept to them. They still did not get it. Recently, they asked me about it again. I now have four web sites and they think that maybe I sell tires on them. Tires? My sites have nothing to do with tires so of course, I do not sell tires.

I decided to write this hub to explain how to make money with a web site. So here goes.

You need a good web hosting company. I use

Next, you need a topic that really interests you so that it will be fun for you to write a lot of pages without getting bored. You can choose a hobby, animals, kids, pregnancy, food, tutorials, and the list goes on...

Once you get around 50 pages and about 50 unique visitors a day, you should begin to monetize your site. First, apply to Google so that you can put Google Adsense ads on your web site. They will take a few days to respond to your application. If they deny you, fix whatever the problem is with your web site and reapply. The money you can make from Google is well worth it.

You have seen Google ads on web sites. They are generally near the top of the page, and sometimes on the right side of the page, usually with blue links. Down at the bottom of the ad square, they say "ads by gooogle."

Once you are approved by Google, they give you code that you copy and paste on your site.Each time a visitor clicks on one of your ads, you earn money, a penny or more. Some clicks are worth several dollars, but most are worth less. One important thing. Do not ever click on your own Google ads, even to test them. Google will shut you down and that is that. It is forbidden. Do not do it! Also, do not say anything on your web site about clicking them either as this is against Google's policies. Right now, I am making more than $500 a month from Google ads on my web sites. In order to get a check from Google, your earned amount needs to hit $100.

Another way how to make money with a web site is to use Infolinks, which is a contextual advertising company. You copy and paste code on each page of your site. This causes some of the words to be underlined in a different color. When a visitor's mouse hovers over the word, a box pops up. If a visitor clicks on the box or the word, you earn money. In order to get the money, you have to hit $100 first.They will pay you through Paypal. I make close to $300 a month with Infolinks.

A third way to make some decent money is by using Chitika ads. Chitika ads are only visible to traffic that comes from search engines. They are not visible to you or to your regular visitors. You have to hit $50 a month to get money from Chitika. They also pay you through Paypal. I make about $120 a month from Chitika.

I use Amazon ads on my sites. A lot of people click on the ads, but Amazon does not pay by click. They pay by sale. I get very few sales. I may get from $10 to $17 every couple of months so it has not yet been worth the hassle for me.

The more pages you write with popular keywords, the more visitors you get. The more visitors you have, the more money you will make. Keep writing good quality information for your visitors and your income will go up.
